I had no idea where to post this topic, so it's general.
I've been mixing here and there for almost two years, but considering my laptop is broken I haven't had much time to waffle around with it. I occasionally get my moms laptop when she's not drooling over second life, but it's not often. I mess around with Virtual DJ as far as programs go, and I'm still not the best at it. I'm wanting to improve!
ANYWAYS.
What programs do you guys prefer for mixing? Any special techniques that might help me out? Any tips are much appreciated!

Right, so what - exactly - do you have to play with at the moment?

Nothing hardware unfortunately. A laptop an hour a day, sucks dude.

Mmm. Well I've only ever used Virtual DJ, as far as software goes. I never really learnt any tricks with it, exactly. I dunno if you've heard any of my mixes - I'm basically the most boring DJ imaginable, so I'm probably totally wasting your time lol.
Have we heard one of your mixes yet? Record one and I'll take a listen. Maybe go from there. :-)

tbh I prefered VDJ 3.14 or earlier, because you could mapp 3 effects on the skin, which you can play simultanious. Since 5 I believe, they only allow one active filter at once, so when i usually use both beatgrid and flanger, i have to press 2 buttons (unless i specify a button just for both), flanger gets restarted because beatgrid is still active... :P

Thanks, I'll get that done as soon as I can, I'm in school right now lol.
And @Sam, can't you just get a vdj skin from the lesser versions and use it for the newer ones?

I installed VDJ a few days ago to see what all this virtual DJing malarchy was about...
I dont see how you are supposed to "do" PFL without two soundcards, I also found that the sync button works just fine...so I'm not sure what to think really
load up two tracks, hit sync, hit play....fade from one to the next..
and theres a few effects you can press on and off that go in time with the music
can't scratch, beat juggling i guess would be tricky without a controller, am I missing something, but there doesnt seem to be much more to it?
hardly a good substitute till i can buy my decks back!

I haven't tried creating one, but trying to use an old skin just crashes the program. I presume they are so different. And I also prefer to use the simple usb controller i have for most of the 'action'

Exactly what I used it for. Nothing better than listening to your own mixes (provided they're not awfully mixed!) is there?!
