Hi Everyone
I have just finished a song and it took me absolutely ages because my pc keeps going dead slow when the production gets busy. I was wondering if I should go about updating my computer. I am using Fruity Loops and the CPU Bar is normally at 80-90 when im not even playing back.. I have:
AMD 3000+
1GB DDR (2 512 sticks)
I have an onboard Nvidia Soundcard (ASUS MOBO) and a Soundlabs one (Definetely need an upgrade there)!!!
Is there anything else I should need to upgrade, if so could anybody help me out please. I really want to do more producing but my pc makes me not want to :(
Cheers
Paul

an amd dual core and 2gb or geil ram would be a nice upgrade but that will mean a new motherboard too (only about 60 for a good one)
if u want me to spec u a pc give me a shout and ill put a few parts together and give u the details.
or you could buy prebuilt, mesh pc's are ok. there is a dual core one with 1gb of ram and 160gb hd for about £600 inc vat, delivery warrenty which is a good deal if u dont want to build urself

Yes that's when it happens mj-dream, when I use fx. It seems to be when i use a few zeta channels also though. Is it better to do all the reverb etc at the end of the track then? It was stuttering so bad the synth was infront of the Kicks etc. Like overlapping kind of. I had to keep rendering the song each time I needed to hear it, it was doing my head in =[

Ah yea sorry your post was not up before i just posted. I could do with an upgrade anyway there is a game i really want to play but its either xblock 360 or pc, prefer me pc though. So im looking to upgrade but I hoping it will help out in the production too. Yes I would prefer to build it myself I definetely need to buy a new motherboard for dual core though. Is it better to get SATA hdd's and use RAID? I don't know if that would be any use for music but games maybe?
I have a friend who will help me sort out a pc just around the corner he runs a comp shop so im all good for getting the parts. Would you be able to do me a spec list please it would be really appreciated!
Cheers
Paul

My pc is 3.2 Ghz pentium & 1gb ram and I don't have much problem anymore unless I use allot of something that really, really badly eats CPU.
Have you adjusted the buffer in audio options?
You may as well wait for an X box 360 they'll be £100 by christmas.

best thing to do is apply fx at the end mate.......will give you a lil more room to breathe whilst making the track.
also watch ur vsts cause some like z3ta rape ur cpu like it aint been screwed in years.......last option is save ur midi files once ur happy with a riff/melody then save ur preset then bounce down to audio.....and bring it back in as a loop....will ease on ur cpu no end.......best bet mate
jaxon spec us decent pc mate but not too expensive...im not into prostitution yet :P

Phobz spec:
dual core amd athlon cpu, will work very nice with multiple tasking programs like music and photo/video editing
asus nforce 4 motherboard, nice stable board, ive got it in both of my pc's and im v happy with it
geil 2gb dual channel, its only £50 more than 1gb, it would be rude not to
cheapo gfx card, if u want to use ur pc for games add £60 and you can get an ati gto card which will run just about any game
small 80gb hard drive to run windows off, you dont have to have two but i always prefer to have windows and storage seperate, if your not fussed you can take £38 off the total
nice big 250gb hd with 16mb cache to store all ur music
dual layer dvd rw ...
after market cpu cooler (saved £10 on the cpu by not getting one with the retail fan included and this only costs an extra £8 & will keep your pc a lot quieter (if there is such a word lol)
and finally a antec sonata 2 case with 450w psu. quality case and v cheap considering it includes a good quality powersupply (usually they just put cheap crap in) you might want to pick a case of your own if u dont like it?

mjdreams spec:
the same as above, but with a single hd to save costs and no case/psu.
ive left the 2gb of ram because its only £50? not much for double the ram. another thing, you cant have 1.5gb of ram running in dual channel, so 1.5 gb running in standard mode would probably be slower than 1gb running in dual channel. if you arnt bothered about having 2gb then you can take £50 off the total. if you want to save a bit more you could drop the aftermarket cpu cooler and user the retail one, you could go for a slightly cheaper motherboard too if u wanted... and if u want to save even more money you could ditch the dual core cpu and go with a san diego or opteron, that would probably take another £50 off. uve probably already got a dvd or cdrw burner too so u could use that
edit: the reason i put a 200gb hd in there is because its only £10 more than a 120gb one
