Well, it's brutal, good to release yer frustration, wicked to go mental to.
What else can I say? But I agree that a lot of that shit sux, but stuff like deathmetal, black metal, some nu metal and the hybrid kinds like fear factory makes are just plain awesome.

i think it has the same appeal as gabber. it's an outlet for frustration, anger and agression through music. some metal musos and quite talented and/or intelligent.

I think this topic states the obvious. Once again it comes down to personal taste.
quote: but metal? i mean its pretencious
personal taste (Which I dont like, fair play to the people that do)

I dont give a shit what people listen to and how they listen to it, aslong as they dont force any on me, i'll just stick to me hardcore.
Cheerz guys.

i think it's wicked sometimes you just need to listen to something fast and angry! plus there's a nice spread of sounds within the scene. iron maiden to slayer to spineshank ......... i love em' all!
i can see why other people don't like them, like you said it's all personal choice. although im pretty sure that a lot of the time people dislike a genre due to lack of exposure to it. if someone who knew what they were on about played you some tunes i bet you'd like a lot of them, the same way most of us could play someone hardcore and have them change their mind about it.

I listen to a bit of metal every now and again.... at school I listned to loads of metal.... I was always botha mosher and a raver..... the ravers were teh pretentious ones when I was a lad though, and the moshers were always really friendly (have times changed?).
The stuff I was into was stuff like Sepultura and Paradise Lost. Theres alot of raw emotion going on in there, from the obvious anger and frustration, and in some stuff even sadness (listen to some of the Paradise Lost stuff, its like sadness at all the stuff thats crap in teh world with an underlying anger bubblingunder the surface...... ok, I'm starting to sound pretentious now LOL).
And if you've ever played guitar, its abso-blooody-lutely fantastic to take your aggressionout on!!! heh

You don't "mosh" to gabber, you do dances like "hakkûh", "stampen" or you just go berzerk and do whatever you want.
Gabber is appealing because it's music that allows you to go insane to a powerful kick and at a good pace. Also the fact that it brings ppl together helps in intencifying the feeling.
When you're like me, and you'e been into gabber for almost seven years now you know it is a force to be reckoned with, it's my life.
Just read my sig, says it all I think :)

wow looks like we got a lotta opinions here, id like to point out that it is literally just the fast blurred metally crap i dont like, old stuff which i class more as rock i guess, like iron maiden n metallica n stuffs good, what is that really fast (and in my opinion) shit kinda metal, death metal? ah well imna stop complaining about something which a lotta ppl love cos im starting to feel a bit harsh, i wasnt saying that the moshers were pretencious by the way its the bands who get all famous cos they think ppl think theyre scarey who are pretencious in my opinion, ive known a lotta sound metal heads actually but all the bands piss me off

Well it's an interesting one, there is a huge difference within the genre just like most others. Like was mentioned earlier bands such as Iron Maiden, and Megadeth can be melodic, and almost uplifting with some great riffs, and well written tracks, And some of the ballads by these groups are simply amazing! whereas at the other end you have Slayer really pushing the speed, and evil thoughts, and for some interesting variation you get the odd group like W.A.S.P pushing the comedy value right from the word go! I personally like it all to be honest, there's great stuff to be found if you dig deep enough.

I really dont know what the world would do without metal. I used to play drums in a few a bands, touring and releasing albums and all the rest that comes with being in a band. I mean the music is great, it is just somthing different to listen to. I mean it is like most people have said, it is down to personal taste.
There is nothing wrong with metal music and I dont like the comment about "theyre fans are the most stuck up bunch of tits in the world theyre fans are the most stuck up bunch of tits in the world" as I dont believe that is a fair comment.
Metal is good....If you like it \m/
