Also just to put it out there... I get on really well with Pasquale Rotella who runs EDC! He re-tweeted one of my DJ sets on his Twitter page, then I CHASED him for a booking haha! I spoke to his wife Holly Madison a couple of times too. I'm too small fry for EDC at the moment though unfortunately :(

oh come one elipton! Sharkey's meltdown on your Zonkers thread was nice. IF it wasn't for the use of one unlicensed track, he would have NO legal case against you.
Everyone is allowed to emulate, as long as there is no monotary gain, which I presume is even true in the UK.

Despite the fact that there were far too many cunts trolling at USH, the site certainly had its moments where I had to sit back and enjoy!

I don't think that many on there were even trolling. The ones that were trolling were obvious to all but the newest members.
I did think it was fist bitingly embarrassing when someone would stumble across the site and sign up, all excited about the latest Darren Styles track, and then get ripped to shreds by someone who wouldn't listen anything that wasn't mid 90's bouncy techno and ridiculed anyone who thought otherwise. Such a great site frequented by a lot of folk into a variety of styles, ruined by a few who gave the site a reputation it certainly didn't deserve.
The waffle board had so many golden moments though, I'd kill to have access to that again.

Yeah was a great site once upon a time but came to an end at the right time. I agree that it would've been better to freeze it for future reference rather than the complete wipeout.

Christ, I was nearly in tears sometimes with him. Arguing with spambots, completely derailing threads in a single post no matter what the original topic was, babbling on about nullnuke and posting lines of meaningless code without anyone even asking for it, and the utter confusion that arose.

My artwork was too lit and he started throwing his weight around.
I'm not worried though. I only reference it indirectly for a bit of a laugh :) It was a bit of a catapult for my music and graphic design endeavours and life is good as result. I hear his circumstances have been less fortunate since that clash. He's still a legend, and I'd buy any music he may or may not release in the future - he's just got a bit of a dicky character.

Fucking hell, starting a fund to raise 800 pounds or something, and not even getting a single penny, the berk.
USH was a forum, stood for United States of Hardcore. Began in the late 90s. Was filled with PLUR and happy vibes and was busy, and the general chat was known as "waffle" and was fucking legendary.
I'll never forget the buzz and excitement when UK hardcore was just kicking off, Hixxy was playing his first Raverbaby dubplates, the scene was just so exciting again, a completely different sound to the happy hardcore from a couple of years earlier but it was a welcome change. Luna-C releasing his supa-sets, CLSM causing a storm before even releasing a tune, Bonkers returning, the entire userbase all online together for the Radio One special (that sort of thing just didn't happen very often), it was a great time with lots of happy people.
As the years rolled on and the USH users started getting older, there were a lot more cynics and jaded ex-ravers who didn't like the way the music was going, even though all styles were welcome on the forum. They didn't outnumber the rest but negativity is just more obvious.
Sadly the place gained a reputation for negativity and controversy and even people who never used the site wouldn't touch it. There were many daily users posting as normal but the controversial users and trolls unfortunately shouted louder. The waffle board contained lots of political posts, casual racism and pure drivel, and many new users simply weren't welcomed and the owner one day closed the site for a few days to let things cool down, but it didn't improve and he suddenly and without warning pulled the plug on the site. As in, I was reading it on minute, and the next it was gone. Hearts were broken, whilst many other forums rejoiced. A quick replacement was knocked up on some free Geocities-type site but it never took off. For about a year I still automatically typed ush.net when I opened my browser.
But even for all the bad stuff, it was easily the best hardcore forum there ever was and will be. And I've never laughed so much as I have reading waffle.

Just Google "ush.net", you'll see a lot more, especially from around the time it died, which might not give you the brightest impression but still.

Damn, What a shame, Sounds like it was the place to be! I would imagine someone must have a saved old cached copy of the site somewhere on some hard drive.
What i wanna know is how did people not liking the "new" scene turn to blatant casual racism, It must have gotten quite nasty if the plug had to be pulled. Was the owner anyone in the hardcore scene or just a random dude?
