Friggin' Lego, man!

I love lego. I had nearly the whole collection of Ice Planet lego when I was a kid (1994!)

Christ I loved that shit so hard.

you all really want to see this, I know...
when I was 10, I recreated an authentic (down to the last detail) "Ice planet" in my bedroom (the attic).

top left hand corner being the best lego set in the world (in the ice planet) the 6973 "Deep Freeze Defender"

and then across the room an equally impressive base for the 'Space Police'

Which was my brothers lego set

for my birthday that year I got the Ice Station Odyssey (6983) to help complete the set

YEAH! LEGO!

do you guys have any fond memories of lego?

Have loads, was more for the city ones though. Still have them all in the basement. Police station, fire station, road plates, cargo train etc. Also have one castle, from the opposite side of pirates, forgot who they were. Also in 1990 i visited Legoland. Was great, they had all these rides, never went to one of them. Just circled around the giant lego statues.

LOL! I love this stuff! When I was a child, my plans had allways been to build a complete LEGO-world in our attic, but unfortunately we moved to the US back then.
I barely can't wait for my oldest nephew to get old enough/maturely for it.

Its funny I was looking up Lego yesterday lol I like Pirates in the early mid 90s and the Town/ City later. Went down hill when they started bringing in Star Wars and Harry Potter. I have a few catalogues left and can still point out which sets I have and which ones I wanted although it seems that the UK names are different to the American versions. You called him Captain Redbeard, we called him Captain Roger & your wizard from the Castle Theme was Majesto but we call him Merlin

I think I had "grown out" of lego by then, but I have to agree - the whole movie/comic/superhero/cartoon themes seems to sap all the imagination of out of lego.

The AFOL refer to the years where you stop playing with Lego as the dark ages. I can't help but feel they are right.

I never liked the colours of the ice planet sets. Much preferred the space police ones. Stuff is just prohibitively expensive though, so parents never bought me much. Was like one set for birthday and one for christmas.

exactly this way we with me as well! I've never bought our kids any new lego - partly because it's so expensive and mainly because it's all movie/comic shite now. We pick up mixed buckets for 2gbp at second hand sales - take 'em home and give them a wash!

Back when I was younger all you had was the catalogues to use for inspiration, you would have small 'storylines' going and me and friends would have some serious discussions about the world of Lego.

It helped us use our imagination and there was no internet for distraction we learned it all ourselves. The Pirate, Castle & Space all had their back stories with the Good guys, bad guys and 'civilians' and some crossovers. The pirates used to have a comic book, released in 1990 going into their stories as well as 4 small books of which I had 2 of them and a third one I found at school lol

How many of you actually played with Legos? I remember 95% of it being building them and going through the catalog and dreaming what i could ask for next Christmas.
