video games I have played over the years.
I haven't played a video or computer game since september of last year,(Or June/Jully/August....wtf?..memory fail) but I still feel resentfull of the time I have wasted doing that crap.
Also has anyone hear of "Inovat8" not the Artist, but a new peice of software Capitalists have made to influence culture, to the extent that people will probably have to be a good gamer to get on in the world of business. So instead of doing Social activities people will be forced to be anti-social and play "Inovat8" so that can be good.....I dunno....innovators I suppose.
And all that crap people say about video-games improving social skills, those people must be on crack or something.
How can I stop feeling this way?
When I think of all the better thing's I could of invested my time into, like Rock Climbing, Skiing, going for walks, and most importantly Art.
I am trying to learn how to draw you see, and my drawing looks shit. I feel exactly how I did when I tried to learn't to boulder, although I don't think I am really cut out for bouldering.
I hate the lengths they go to and how much, and how effective the propaganda they use for selling games to people is.
I mean COD MW2 is just dripping with salesman's "Buy this NOW" propaganda.

first off, call of duty is a good example of what most people who play video games hate about the industry as a whole, and other things like those particular titles giving a bad name in many ways, to people who play video games and consider it a more than just a hobby
playing video games is no more of a waste of time than music or art
>video games aren't an artform
>video games are non productive
you are entitled to an opinion, however it seems like your the one who has fallen victim to propaganda in this case

I agree to a certain extent that video gaming doesn't really improve social skills. It's "improved" social skills because there is a large community of people playing the games, more like a common interest since these people have a common topic to chat about. As a person who personally stopped playing video games since 4 years ago, I can understand how you feel like right now. It's like being an outcast from peer pressure. If you do channel your energy on something else, you wouldn't be thinking about all these personal issues that much. But it didn't matter much to me since I've been busy doing tracks and hanging out with my usual mates every now and then, even though they are gamers but we do try to share an interest in movies and food.

Just be yourself, don't read into such senseless issues too much.

You sound like an impatient person who wants to grasp knowledge and skills fast. Learn how to be patient and take things slow, especially for art. If you're just wanting to learn something to be the best and impress others to make friends or socialize, it's not going to work out well seriously. People will just respect your talent but may not help you in being better socially.
Probably you might want to start learning a hobby that might help you in your daily life like cooking. Since food connects people easily through the stomach more than games.

Learning english and teamplay through games (singleplayer or teambased multiplayer via teamspeak) didn't come to your mind yet?
You haven't played much games then...

There was just a hype about this game because they had and still have good marketing strategies.
In single player the level design was full of obvious script events. For me, it was just an boring game. The multiplayer may had some fun factors but there are far better games out there; CoD is just an mainstream brand.

I studied game design and i have not heard anything about it, do you have any link to proof it's existence?

Sure, all software and especially game developers are evil geniuses trying to take over the world... such an evil bunch... it's as ridiculous as the debate about violent video games, raising children straight to mass murderers.

I don't see the downside.
PS: I edited because I guess you mean asocial as in low social interest, not antisocial personality disorder, exhibited by many, or possibly most or all, serial killers.

They are in a whole league of their own in terms of time wasting, lol. They aren't even games, i don't know what they are.
And regarding the original post: no one is making you buy or play games or listen to advertising and even if they are a waste of life, it doesn't have to be the case for everyone. As with everything it's about balance and it's up to the person in question to be balanced about it. Even if the people creating and selling games were in fact evil geniuses, it really makes no difference because no one is making you buy them.

The official term is Social Games; or to be exact "Free-to-play Social Game", since you can play for free and buy virtual items afterwards to gain advantages if you like.

Wait...you don't see the downside?
Seriously? O.o
Or are you joking.
Also Hellfury, I think Drawing is a a Skill that will help me.
You see, drawing can make me money if I get good at it. Significantly more that what I make now.
I feel at the stage I am at and how things have turned out, I need to try and keep as many options open as possible. I know Games testers make a 'reasonable' living off of testing but no where near as much as the coders/designers/scripters of games
My best friend sells his Linocut prints for 200-300 a piece sometimes, sometimes he doesn't sell any, so its(admittedly) very variable work(Kind of like commission paid work).

One guest-lecturer of my university was ex-director of arts department at crytek. he said you have to literally eat books about anatomy (humans, aliens, animals) and draw stuff almost 24/7 in your free time to become an decent artist when you plan to get an nice job as 2D artist.

I find that offensive :P
I love playing Video Games. I might not play them as much as I used to do (both because most games today stink, or I spend to much time ranting and raving or other trolling on the internet), but I still find time to play it. I might not be the most social person around, but I TALK when people speak to me, and I am definitly not a new Anders Breivik!
Anyways, like Hard2Get said, no one is forcing you to play, or to stop being social for that matter.
