might as well start one, after a dodgy start, I thought tonights opening ceremony was really dramatic. It was typically Brittish if you know what I mean!

Typically British, typically successful.
Being a Brit abroad (in a city with every nationality, due to the large International Organisations) I can tell you the claps and cheers were as loud as any I've heard...even at a football match!

I think we out did the Chinese already, was a great show. Should be a wicked two weeks. I live in London and the city is buzzing.
I did find our Olympic uniform a bit weird, was like a strippers navy uniform with that shiny gold on the collars. US at least looked looked like they could be taken seriously with the blue blazers and military style berets.

LMAO that is a big no. In fact I think that the opening ceremony outdid Atlanta's, maybe even Athen's, but they paled in comparison to what Sydney did for theirs and what Beijing did. I'm not including opening ceremonies for winter Olympics because that would not be fair to what they've accomplished.
I've been a big fan of Olympic opening ceremonies since seeing Barcelona's when I was real young. And I've gotta say that I love the idea that the host city/nation takes the opportunity in the opening ceremony to showcase many of their well-known cultural aspects as well as their not-so-well-known ones.
Although London did some of that, and in real great fashion from the beginning to the formation of the ring ceremonies, the rest of it was a bit too gimmicky IMHO. I did like the nightmare scene with the children and where all the Mary Poppins came and saved the dreams, but I think there could have been a more creative way to introduce the whole segment. And I did like the whole music segment of the 40 decades of music. In fact I was real disappointed when NBC decided to cut to commercial breaks for about half of the 80s segment.
What I despised the most about that is the whole boy meets girl thing and them communicating through text. I'm sorry but that was just pure shit. It reminded me of the dumbass Atlanta segment with the cheerleaders and the monster trucks. And the whole segment was more suitable for the closing ceremony, as the closing ceremony is more laidback and just an overall celebration of life.
But overall it was a good opening ceremony. Certainly was entertaining, and it seemed they made a bigger effort to attract the attention of the younger viewers. But I would've liked them to do a better interpretation of the thousand+ years of culture that the UK had to offer. Beijing did that in great fashion, and every segment managed to take your breath away, at least for me. And maybe cut back on the movie segments. They seemed more of a time killer than anything else. But definite props to them for the movement from the rural to industrial. Loved that whole part. And definitely a creative way of displaying the Olympic rings.

Only caught the last hour of it as I was out watching The dark knight rises, which I must say was absolutely brilliant!
Anyway, what did look like a good opening ceremony I just can't wait till its all over because I'm sick of hearing about the Olympics. Not interest in it whatsoever lol

A Scot walked in with the flag ffs! Haha! I admit at the start I was thinking this could be an English affair but as a Scot I honestly don't think it was. It was the work of sheer genius by Danny Boyle & had me hooked from the very start till macca wrapped things up
The queen & bond!? Honestly what a show!

has Alex Salmond done his usual criticism about how Scotland was left out? I thought it was British more than English as everyone used to term GB and we also have athlets from Scotland, Wales and Northen Ireland and there are loads of people taking part nearly as much as the USA so I hope we can prove to those Yanks that we are capable of getting some medels
