yea it's a completely new console with updated graphics. That was one of the main complaints of Wii is that the graphics were just slightly better than the gamecube.

They haven't actually revealed the exact specs yet. It's certainly more powerful than any current console but as you say that's no mean feat. If they have made it powerful enough to play the multi plats in the next gen as well though they will be laughing. 720/PS4 are rumoured to arrive 2013 and I can't see them putting too much more in the box really as they will want to keep the launch price down in the current climate.
I'm more concerned with the quality of the gameplay in games that come to it personally though. After 20 odd years of the same first person shooters, driving games etc. I like to try my hand at things that are a bit different. The fact that it's capable of putting out a decent HD image at a reasonable FPS is good enough for me.

Probably not but that's what happens when you go with a silly processor architecture that developers struggle with. :P These are only early games on the wii as well so the graphics can likely get even better. Hopefully in time for absolutely stunning versions of Zelda and Metroid. 8)

It looks like the online commitment is there tbh even though there not using it for Pikmin. Personally it's not a game I'd ever play online so I'm not fussed about that. Mind you I'm not a big online player on consoles so... Never even used live on my 360, I tend to prefer single player or local multiplayer. They filter thing does sound a bit. :-/ I think that's just for like a status thing in the overworold and not 1 on 1 convo though?
Definitely great to see some mature games on there yeah. They really do need to strike the right balance to attract everyone.

Since I've been born I've been a PC gamer at heart. And I don't understand why people continue to buy consoles. All the multiplatform games shown at E3 this year were played on a PC (Watch Dogs, Need for Speed, Far Cry etc etc.) with an Xbox 360 controller hooked up to them.
But honestly mouse and Keyboard combo is the only way to play video games. Look, Nintendo is great and I honestly think they are the only Console manufacturer we need. As for Xbox or PS3, just buy a damn PC...almost 1k and then just update it every time new consoles come out and your set. That's 1k this year with new consoles. In 5 years you spend $500 on upgrades. Plus those damn controllers just suck! Mouse and Keyboard is a natural feeling!
If more people played PC we would have better games. Honestly, we would. Half the community wouldn't be retarded since they would have to learn computer skills and we wouldn't be playing with 12 year olds ALL THE TIME! And besides with all these steam sales you're actually saving money.
If we had more PC players we wouldn't be getting shitty ports and thus no reason to complain about anything. There's a reason why Halo and Gears of War on PC are regarded as some of the best PC games. It's just overall better to be a PC gamer in the end.

My main reason for buying consoles is normally JRPG's that just don't hit the PC. I like to play things like that Skate series on my 360 too. Then of course as you say, Nintendo just do there own thing and you can't quite get the same experiences anywhere else. I tend to agree with you on the most part though and play a lot of games on PC. First person, shooter, Strategy games, things like The Witcher, Dragon Age. Not only are the graphics and controls better they cost less too!

tbh it only needs to be as powerful as a computer of today. There are people who dont mind paying $$$ to get the latest every year, but that's just a very few people. Most others are happy having a computer for a longer time than that. Complaining about it being 6 years old doesnt need to say that it sucks now. But then, with how both Xbox360 and PS3 rarelly can/could run anything in 25fps+ in 1080p, maybe both systems have sucked ever since release. The Wii U is supposted to run at 50fps in full.

I'm 50/50 with this at the moment. Will buy it eventually though, if only for Zelda.
As for whether or not the PS4 and next Xbox will be more powerful, will it even matter? The graphical enhancements of the PS4 won't be massively better than the Wii U. They aren't going to put a crazy processor in again, it will just end up over-priced like the PS3 and nobody will buy it.
PC graphics are better than current gen systems but they hardly blow them away. The PS3 is what 6 years old now? The GPU is even older than that. Would you say honestly say PC gaming is 6-7 years ahead of consoles?

This is a good point really. I can max every recent game I have for PC and while they do look better than console it isn't like the difference between PS2-PS3 for example. That's after loading additional high res texture packs and various graphics mods too. Mind you they do sit at over 60fps rather than under 30 like the consoles...

Anyways, I was wrong, I mean 30/60fps, but then I can almost say that rarelly any game on the ps3 runs at 25 or more, and most of those games are 720p only!

And the Next Gen consoles are going to run even better then they currently are for both Sony & Microsoft. It isn't even about the graphics anymore, even though they play a large part for twitchers and etc, it has changed perspectives. They're more focusing on how much shit they can jam into their community to justify why people should get their console. Netflix, Music Streaming, PSOne Classics, etc. etc.
Plus both or one of the consoles, I don't remember, are partnered up with NVIDIA I think, so they're going to get some massive power in their systems either way.
They just have to do it without hitting the ****ing ridiculous opening PS3 $600. Which I bought when it first came out because I was stupid, but hey at least my original 60GB can play PS2 games.

But yea, the PS3 was overpriced. I didn't buy my PS3 until the slim came out. Funny enough, I did the same for both PS1 and PS2 aswell :P

I got the Wii on launch day for my kids, queued up for hours on end & was 14th out of 15 available consoles...... by the looks of it Zelda is gonna be a long time coming for the wii U, so i'm gonna wait this time unless nintendo pull something special out the bag like 'RARE' coming back...
lol I wish........ got to be honest though RARE were wasted on the xbox, they should go back to Nintendo
