Visually, especially on a huuuuuge screen in 3D, it's (mostly) jaw-dropping. Retina-scorching stuff in places. Very well realised.

As for the film, depends on what you were expecting really. If you're expecting another 'Alien' film in the same vein as Ridley's original, then be prepared to drop your expectations as it's pretty far-removed from the original, even if it's set in the same universe. No more claustrophobic moving about in air vents etc., this is pretty wide-open, with some lavish sets. Apparently the film was going to "scare the shit out of you"....and it didn't :/ Although some of the scenes were a bit grizzly.

Glad I caught the first screening, as numerous reviews (including national newspapers) have basically written a synopsis rather than a review, and talked about THAT scene, and also the ending which was a bit :/ if you're gonna see it.

Some of the dialogue was a bit wanky, and whilst it questions Darwinism and religion (perhaps a little too much), it was engaging, and the film raises more questions than answers.

However, if you've somehow managed to avoid the trailers, the reviews and haven't seen 'Alien', then switch your brain off and you've got a treat.

I will say, there is one totally stupid scene towards the end which wouldn't have been out of place in Looney Tunes cartoon (why didn't they run to the side?!?!?).

And Fassbender is *amazing* as David - definitely stole the show.

I really liked this BTW, thought it was pretty good. Definitely worth a watch.

I went and saw it twice. Absolutely loved it. Not without its flaws, and it should have made it's mind up whether it wanted to be about one or the other - 1) Where did we come from? 2) Alien prequel.

Still massively enjoyed it. Fassbender is (was before this film to be fair) my favourite actor of the last couple of years.

Watched it for a third time today. It's one of the best looking films I've ever seen. It's absolutely staggering in places.

I still really, really like it. I can't, in all honesty, say it's a great film, though. As Clive says, there is some piss-poor dialogue in places. Some of the characters are too irritating, as well.

I think the reason I like it more than I should, is that it just taps into that really magical/wondrous area of thought: What is out there? Where did life (in general, not just humans) come from? How did the universe come into existence?

Some really very special scenes in there, though, visually. One of my favourites:

Couldn't agree more.

Was actually disappointed from the whole story plot but the effects were awesome (as always within such sci-fi movies)

Only memorable scenes: operation table, first death scenes and that control room. ^^'

Completely devoid of terror, horror or suspense. A stupidly implausible special effects movie that I never want to see again.

You're - by a long way - not the only one that feels like that. I completely understand why a lot of people don't like it.
