Yo
on tuesday i tried using audacity to record a new banging hardcore mix
unfortunatly it did not work. the sounds seem to be very distorted i checked the levels etc all ok
red lining the mixer wasnt an issue coz im sick the levels

my friend steve said it could be the cable not bein good enough quality
unfortunatly he hasnt got a clue so it wasnt that as i paid $24 for the cable
my other friend mark said maybe it was the laptop levels not the mixer
shows how much he knows i had it set right down to hardly anything.

anyway any help regarding this issue would be much apprciated

can you help?
ur true friend in hardcore
not freeform coz thats gay
thanks

Sorry mate but it probably is the cable. You should be looking to spend $50 minimum on any cables. You want the core to sound as slick as possible, not a distorted mess. You fool.

If you are using an onboard soundcard that isn't a good start quality wise. On top of this lots of laptops have earth loop problems that can effect a recording to the onboard sound card. Even with the and a shit cable though you should at least be able to get something listenable. Couple of things:

Are you recording through a mic imput rather than a proper line in? This can sometimes cause the sort of issue you're describing.

When you say "i had it set right down to hardly anything" it worries me. Without pro equipment there will no doubt be some noise on the recording. This noise may well stay the same regardless of levels depending on the source, so the quieter you record the mix the more of an issue this becomes as it will be louder in relation to the music. Try and get the recording levels as near to the red as you can without clipping it.

Before splashing out more cash on expensive cables I'd get yourself a decent external soundcard (if you don't have one already). This will be a far better use of your money. Internal cards are rubbish and when working with recording or production things like sound blaster cards aren't much better.

Hope something here helps you with the issue.

No shit. :P Although I remember recording a track I made on Hip Hop Ejay onto a tape recorder from a set of shitty pc speakers when I was about 8. ****ing ghetto mate.

I just mean does he have the mixer connected to a mic in rather than a line in.

After writing all that though I'm starting to wonder if this is just some serious trolling going down in here. :P

Hahaha! Ejay was sick, I remember when I was in year 6 I 'made' (randomly placed samples everywhere) this house/trancey thing in Dance eJay with this "RELEAASSSEE MEEE" vocal going through it. I felt like the don :P

and spending more than 20 ona cable is IDIOCY!

Unless you are going to record a mix for commercial release, your internal soundcard and a regular 10 pound cable should be enough. Only Audiophiles goes all the way to spend money on unnecesary equiptment, just because "they" can here the smallest difference.

And always try to never go above -5dB since you can normalise afterwords with no problems (unless you saved it to a MP3 directly).

And since you don't like freeform, you're a dick :P
