hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
they were..kinda happy... but the progression made it hmmmm
and that mellody coming in at the end was rather in dis-harmony with the pads before it, or just detuned tooo much.
the pads are quite abrupt aswell, ie each note lasts only 1 bar. and in this case it doesent particularily suit imo

Nah they don't have to be one bar. I'll listen to your pads when I get the chance.
If you like I could send you a couple of midis to pads that I've done so you can inspect them.

Cheers bulby that would be great. I always thought they had to follow the bottom layer of the lead riff.... If that makes sense

When I do pads I use chords, say I have a note on c4 for say 2 bars, then a note on c5 1 bar then for the 2nd bar c6 for instance (Just an example). It seems to sounds nicer when progressing when using more than 1 note for your pads. The pad just seems to be a little detuned and have you tried playing around with the envelopes too give it more release etc?

They just have to be in key with the lead but I'm not the best person to explain that as I have no real music theory knowledge and play everything by ear. What i find easiest is to go on a piano or plinky keyboard and just press the note your using for the lead and other keys and see which notes... er... harmonise (I think that's the correct word).
Another thing (that's sort of unrelated) you can do with pads is double them up when it comes to a breakdown. If you have your kinda standard mid range pad playing during the track and it carries on into the breakdown try bringing in another pad, a nice deep low range one an octave below it and have them both playing at the same time. Obviously you cant have this one running through the kick and bass part of the track as it'll interfere with their "space" in the frequency range.
If you PM me an address to send them to I'll e-mail you some pad midis :)

They are different notes and they are in chords. I lowered the attack and release because it sounded rreeeaalllyyy off with any attack and the release sounded a little weird. Normally for pads i would have quite a large amount of release goin on but for this pad i dunno it seemed a little weird... Ill probably add a LITTLE bit of attack and some release and re-post it.
