right folks after a good innings i've noticed my needles not holding as well as they should so is time they get replaced.

used stanton 500's before and have to say they've lasted well, other people have said there not the best though.

i'd rather pay extra and get good equipment but dont really no whats my best bet, looking for suggestions.

i dont scratch at minute but am looking to learn in near future, what would you recommend?

I'm not the biggest fan of the Stanton headshells & carts. I find they jump out of the record grooves to much. Couldn't recomend you any better atm, I'm using Stanton myself and I stupidly gave away my concorde one....

Ortofon om's are really good about 5 or 6 different ones to choose from.

Prices start at £20 each i think.

Mr k will tell you to avoid Concordes as they have been known to damage arms.

I use a pair of Ortofon concordes. Must admit everyone uses them round here and I've never heard of them damaging anyones arm...

it's not extremely common but it does happen, concords weren't designed to be used on technics

concords are designed for straight arms, they can damage the connection pins inside the tonearm...also they are pretty light and if you lift them up too quickly they can wind up hitting something...let's just say there isn't a whole lot of protection on the needle =P

Thats true, but I find headshells like the Stanton one I use has the wires exposed underneath the shell, for some reasom this makes them have a humming sound & cut out one speaker channel from ttime to time. It's really annoying when your halfway through a mix and you have to stop and try and twist turn the cart just to get your speaker back
