After a bit a research it appears the MK5 is just an update of the MK2 with some re-design on some parts and a new pitch fader.

Are they worth paying the extra for over MK2's?

(No silly get MK5 g's(cost) or get TTX's(already under consideration) replies)

in my opinion its worth getting the Mk5's over the Mk 2's. Theres not much differece between the two both in price and design. But the Mk 5's have the pitch reset that i find really really useful. I think its worth paying extra just for that

I think if I am remembering correctly, 5s are smooth over 0, instead of the 2s which lock into place at zero, gives you much more control.

thats the mk5 g's. the mk 5's are exactly the same as the the mk2 but they have a pitch reset button instead of a click in the fader. very useful and worth the money imo, and its got the power button sheilded. it would have made so much more sense to just switch the way the button moves to turn the power on and off.

anyway, id recomend the mk5's, but if i was you id get the mk3's if you can get a set, they are basically the same (im not 100% sure what the differance is but the mk3 has the pitch reset and the switch mod like the mk5) as the mk5's but cheaper i heard a rumor that the mk5 had a smoother motor... i cant tell the differance if it has so if i had the choice again id get the mk3's

hth mate

I have all of them,
MK2 - Australia
MK3 - Home
MK5 - Studio

Nothing wrong with any of them, MK2's (at least my pair) seem to have more torque if your into torque. MK3 and 5 don't have the click at 0 pitch and have a pitch reset button to pitch to zero. Also the MK3+5 have a metal bracket around the power switch so you don't turn the deck off with your hand when DJing or scratching. There are two models of MK5's (forget the numbers), the more expensive MK5 has a double pitch button (+-16 or +-8 pitch ranges), and the power button and the vinyl light are in blue.

The rumor the reason they changed the pitch to a button is that the middle contact in the slider itself would wear out and sometimes make the plator turn backwards, also it was really hard to mix when you were around 0 pitch because you could not get it 100% as it might be slightly off. I have never seen or heard of the problem actually happening but I heard it from people at Panasonic (owners of Technics).

There is also a limited MK2 gold edition, with all the silver metal in gold, including the plator, quite rare, but still has the backward pitch problem.

There are also MK4's that had the triple speed select of 33, 45 and 72 for the really old records out there :)

I would go with the 3's (if you can still find a pair) or the 5's as the click on the pitch slider can get annoying.

i know someone with a set of them mk2g's, they are supposed to be worth a fortune.

id agree with silver that the mk2's seem to have more torque, but it doesnt make any differance at all.

mk2's have dead zone around 0% pitch, however mk5's do not. I have mk2's, but I normally mix at around +4% so dead zone rarely effects me, unless I'm playing Makina which is in varied states of pitch.
