i only know FL5 ive not used anything else.. though from i can tell, FL5 can do prettymuch anything. well anything ive tried to do in it so far.

i downloaded the trial of reason.. look at it for about 3min. then uninstalled it lol. i just didnt even have a clue where to start! maybe i will look at it again.

there are alot of different oppinions about. and what i can summarise from them.
ppl that use fruity, say its best.
ppl that use reason say its best.
there are some ppl that switch from one to the other ect.
so i think just use what ever ur used to! ive heard that fruity is not as good quality as reason. i dont know why though. as ppl seem to be able to get good sounds out of it. maybe it requires a bit more attention.

and

everyone bows down to the god that is cuebase sx lol

but i dont know much.. i been playing at produceing for a month and a half maybe 2.

I really think if you REALLY know what your doing in FL it can be just as good or better than Reason. But I really think Reason is easier to get the sound you want out of it. FL has SO many tweaks but most of the them are so minimal changes that is hard to get what you want and most of them have all the abbrevations and I know I can't remember all of them. As for Cubase I've never used it yet but I want to see if there is a demo out there or something.

Yeah, I checked out that one with the 303 loop. Much more advanced than what I'm capable of right now. I actually had to open each device to see and hear what it was doing.

Damn straight it is! I have a cool RNS of some hoover madness with several subtractor synths. It sounds super fat too

Reason 3.0.4 is the latest

Pretty much you buy Reason 3 and download a patch to bring it to 3.0.4.

I got my student copy for $300AU, including postage. There are lots of great support websites out there and lots of free refills (specilised sample packs for use with Reason.) for peope to collect.

reason is quite a good program, certainly more than capable to steering you
into the ways of music production.
I stopped using it myself as I was unimpressed by the sound I was getting
from the various synths etc within the program, although this just may be
that I have spent more time mastering vst's and various hardware synths
instead of giving reason due time and attention.

I would defo look into Cubase SX, this is what we run the Higher State
Studios with and i swear by it, we of coarse all have Reason 3 on the system
as well so that its there as an option should we need it!

Make sure you download some refills etc, they are good sources of samples!

In my oppinion, the benefits that I find with Cubase SX over say something
like fruity (i started on fruity) would be the audio recording capabilitys.
These days, with so much of my time being taken up with recording vocals
and instruments, i find that cubase is one of the best interfaces and quickest
platforms for me to be able to do that.

Although, I expect fruity has upgraded alot since i used it and may have
the ability to do this now!

Well done! and enjoy!
