has anyone got any hints/tips on how to go about doing this? i have got the general idea on how to do it, i just havnt got the accuracy and end up going back to the traditional method.
once ive got the record approximatly beatmatched should i be making small adjustments back and forward (as neccessary) with the pitch?
any help welcome, cheers

i mean touching the record and platter to beatmatch, not the pitch on its own (pitch bending)

Pitch bending is to re-align the beats in case they drift. Most just raise/lower the pitch quickly and return it back. This takes a lot longer to learn to do but it is a lot less noticable than pushing the record

I have seen some DJ's do this but I can't say it's good or bad to do it... I slow my records down by touching the metal plate of the turntable and using my fingers like break pads sort of thing... to speed the record up I use my finger just above the middle of the record (where the pin is holding the record on the plator) and push it a tad faster. It does take time to master it... expect 3-6 months to get it correct.
it's all hardcore.

I don't touch the platter unless somthing happens .... like the turn tables getting bumped etc.
I think the pitch control gives a cleaner sound, so I try to keep one hand on the pitch.

i usually twist the spindle and lightly tap the pitch control
unless you can tell it's starting to go out of synch, don't touch the records...unless I suppose you are trying to add some turntable tricks, but if you are just trying to beatmatch only touch the track that you are bringing in.
then switch if the records are still out of synch when it's only bass line/high hats on the tune mixing out.

i hav tecnichs 1200 Mk5's and they hav a pitch reset button that resets the pitch to 0, give that a bit of a flick and it will slow it or quicken it up depending on where the pitch is (+/-), unfortanatley this method will only work one way

The Numark TT200's have the same button. Really useful. But anyway, I find that touching the platter can sometimes be a bit 'risky'. I mean a little too much pressure can cause a big difference. I just find it easier using the pitch.

i know how to beatmatch (been mixing about 10-11 months, it took me 3 months to learn how to beatmatch using Silver's method), i just want to perfect my pitch bending technique as i think its a cleaner way to mix. does anyone know of any website that goes into detail how to do it?
cheers

The videoes on Sy's site (quosh.com) have a bit about this, theres probably something on recess.co.uk as well
Basically, its about making small adjustments, if you think ur records goin out a bit give the pitch a TINY flick, just be gentle
