they last well too so you can be pretty sure after a quick test that they are probably still in decent nic making them good second handers to buy. Good way to check second hand decks if you have 2 copy's of one record put the both to full speed or vice versa play at same time to see if they still hold consistantly.

get a good second hand set
either numark tt-200s or gemini PT-1000s and up
technics will be too expensive but make sure you have decent direct drive decks

I have pt-2000s (although I started with belt drives) and they're fine for me

technics soon...

I started off with a pair of soundlab belt drives and a dsm 15 mixer. The bonus is you really have to practice keeping the 2 in time as they soon drift apart so you develop ya skills along the way. No point spending cash on better equipment until you know mixing is for you. I know people who spent hundreds on decks one week, got bored and sold them the next for half the cash.

^^^well I've been using CD decks for the past 2.5 years so I know its what I enjoy. The only reason I don't want to spend a fortune is because i physically can't.
