when r they gonna start making cd packs?? they r doing it with drum and bass packs now so why not hardcore? this is the main reason i dont buy them anymore cus lets face it, how many people wanna listen to tapes these days? I really think we need to push the promoters to start making cd packs aswell as tape packs? will this ever happen? im sure the promoters will make a lot more money out of it

maybe they are trying to keep it "old school" or even maybe it takes a little while longer and a little bit more work to pirate a tape than a cd

cd packs of live events are frowned upon because they are easily put online. sure the promoters will make money off of it but the artists don't get jack.
I still listen and buy tape packs, that's why I had a tape deck installed when I bought my car =P and besides, most of those tapes sound better after a couple 100 plays

yeh but brian you could say that about any live event cd e.g coldplay or red hot chilli peppers gig. The thing is it doesnt matter if the promoters wanna keep it old skool if that is there intention, the story is that most people dont want tapes anymore, we r now in 2005!! the reason i brought this subject up is because im a massive raver and have been since 95 and i always used to buy loads of tape packs but now like many of my friends i dont bother because id rather buy cds. The point i was trying to make is that if they started making cd packs then id start buying them again and im sure im not the only one to say it

I totally agree I have approx 250 live tapes some of which are quite old. The problem with tapes is that if they are played a lot they wear out or get stretched. Thats why cd would be better.
And if the problem of cd being ripped and copied is stopping them doing it why are all the drum and bass packs released on cd now. Also personally I record my live tapes to pc and then back to cd to preserve them but can rip a whole 12 pack in under a week(although I don’t post them on the internet or share the files). So with the right kit piracy will still be the same!!!

slammin vinyl did do a hardcore cd release of an event but got in trouble for it due to legality issues. why don't you try emailing promoters and ask them to do so, and if they can't, ask them why not?

They did do CD's and got their ass sued because the CD's were unlicensed - the DJ's playing did not even know they were being recorded for CD. Search the news it was a big things a few years back....
I can only assume for the drum & bass people that the CD's are either licensed or they are doing it illegally...
it's all hardcore.

managed to find the news article took a while tho
Illegal tape packs have long been tolerated somewhat in the hardcore scene for a few years now, the somewhat dodgy recordings and the fact they were on tape allowed these releases to sit in a gray area of the hardcore scene.
With the recent release of the Slammin NYE CD pack (unknown to everyone prior to release), several labels, artists and publishers are now taking legal action against these all forms of live recordings and have placed bans on all live recordings in any form (tape or CD) and live recording sales.
This is good news for hardcore artists, finally the people that are making the music can get money from legally licensed material instead of bootleg rips offs.

well in that casei think actions need to be taken to get these recordings licenced so we carry on enjoying buying and listneing to these live events especially if its one we have missed. BOBTHEBRAVE can i ask u a question? how do u rip a tape to ur pc? ive been wanting to do it with my vinyl aswell? just wondering???

I have stoped buying live recording there such a poor quality it's not worth it and though I don't mind mc's at raves I hate them chatting over tunes when i'm listenin at home, in the car etc. For them to do the cd's and get all the licenses etc. needed you will probably be looking at paying at least double per pack why bother paying £40+ for a crappy quality selection of cd's the price tag is all tape pack ever had going for them in the first place.
