What's your definition of it?
I call EDM what is precisely known as Progressive House and Electro.

It's what's popular at the minute - so whatever America says it is.

I think that's pretty much it. I think Skrillex's flavour of dubstep was 'EDM' for a bit, now I guess it's this big room house type stuff?

For me, EDM has no real musical meaning. I think it means nothing more than whatever has been popular for the last few years.

It's most of all a marketing term and should be treated as one despite (american) efforts to make EDM about all dance music which is simply not the case.

Well, technically it can be anything electronic that you can dance to, even happy hardcore.
But I think the most prominent genres that stand out to me when EDM is mentioned is stuff that was dominating festivals and slowly starting to trickle into the charts during the initial "EDM Boom" around late 2011... Progressive House, Electro House and Big Room House.
