Ok so we all (well most of us ;-)) love hardcore. And we all know that it isn't what you could call chilled out music. Does anyone, especially those of us with decks, get any bother from their neighbours when playing hardcore? If so, any tips for this sort of thing?
I've stayed in my current flat for 4 years and minus the odd complaint or banging the walls in anger, I've been quite fortunate. Although this flat has quite thick walls and is a decent size.
Me and the mrs just bought our first flat and will be moving in hopefully in the next few weeks. This place has much thinner walls and is a bit smaller so I imagine it will be quite easy for the neighbours to hear the music. Don't want to upset our new neighbours when we do move in, but I don't want to give up on playing hardcore as it's meant to be played.... LOUD! :-D

i've been in my flat since 08 and never had a complaint (mainly because nobody has lived in the flat below me since or even before i moved in) had a party last week and my neighbour knocked on my door and asked me nicely to turn it down a little thats the only "complaint" i've ever had and i blast gabber all day every day and i scream and shout at my tv going nuts a video games (mainly fifa & cod) i think i'm pretty lucky

I use headphones! I killed a lot of headphones trying to dance while wearing them, but I stopped it now - big mistake!

Perhaps you could put some of those big foam egg cartons or the like on the wall to muffle the sound?

Sound proofing the room with the speakers might help. Something that'll eat up the sound like Dys7 suggested.

Try to minimize the use of a subwoofer or turn that down. Those low frequencies are what your neighbors will hear /feel the most.

I much prefer using speakers so headphones not really an option for me especially when playing the decks.
Me and a few mates regularly get together on a Saturday afternoon to go for a few pints then head back to mine to watch the football and blast hardcore on the decks. The more we drink, the louder the music gets lol.
Suppose I could try the egg carton trick!

A subwoofer is a speaker used only for low frequencies, in other words just the bass. Think of those guys driving around in a car blasting music and all you hear is the bass, all you're hearing is their system's subwoofer.

But since you only have two speakers, you don't have a subwoofer.



I'm suggesting keeping the noise/speakers limited to one room. There are several videos/tips online on sound proofing a room. Some are expensive solutions, some are cheap solutions. Give it a quick Google search.

How loud are your speakers anyway? Ear damaging? Maybe just keeping it down a bit will do the trick ;X

They're nothing special but as I said in an earlier post the volume of sound goes up in sync with the volume of alcohol consumed lol.
I could use headphones normally during the week or whatever but my op was really aimed at when I've got a few mates round at the weekend.

This isn't for soundproofing, it's to improve room acoustics. It will do pretty much nothing to help with soundproofing.

There are two ways of properly soundproofing a wall. One is to use a special acoustic plasterboard like a soundstop panel. The other, far more effective method is to build a second stud wall with an air gap between your existing wall, fill the studding with rockwool and put acoustic plasterboard on too. This will help somewhat but bass will still travel through as it just vibrates through the building. You can help this a small amount by decoupling your speakers as best you can but it's not going to do much.

Of course if you are in a flat you need floating floors and hanging ceilings too, it's a lot of work and will reduce the size of your room too. It's not really work you can carry out in a rented property either (if you're renting).

TBH I used to bang out my music but these days I can quite happily enjoy it a bit quieter and keep on my neighbours good side. I always turn it RIGHT down or switch to headphones around 10 as well. It all helps in not making my tinnitus any worse anyway! It's better for producing as well as you don't fatigue your ears as quickly.

speak to your neighbours, explain that you're a DJ or producer and need to practice your sets or hone your productions

and give them your phone number, so that they can easily contact you if you overstep the mark.

That's a really good idea. My neighbor's did that. They were going to have a party, they gave me a heads up, and left a phone number to call them if it was getting out of hand.
I really appreciated the gesture.
