Not surprising really when you think about it. Why go into town for a DVD or CD when you can just order one online that's almost invariably cheaper? The highstreet in general is probably in trouble, what with online shopping becoming more and more popular.

I always found HMV a bit steeper than other options. Juno still has great prices, especially very fair international shipping prices. Zavvi also had a great deal on Darwin & Fracus' second artist album, although that was the one and only HU album I think they ever carried.

This is a shame.
Not that sad to see the store itself go though. One local to me is terrible. No Dance section anymore, not even a Reggae section. What they do have is in with "Chart and Pop", What the hell!? Everything was overpriced too. Shame because I'd always make the point to go into a store when out shopping where I can instead of ordering online.

How could they hope to compete when "That's Entertainment" in preston is the same size as one of their "large" stores...and sells all their CD compilation in practically perfect condition at 6 for 5GBP....seriously! Their dance music section is massive as well, takes up a whole wall of the store :D
they had practically all the "In The Mix.." cds, almost completed my collection for less than a fiver, haha!
can't wait for our next trip down south!
If anything hopefully this will be good for independent retailers; return of the record stores? yes please!

Administrators job is to squeeze as much money out of the company as possible before either selling it or killing it; generally the sales tend to (sadly) be no different than what what was there before - I'm willing to bet that either they sell the company to zoverstocks/estocks (Music Magpie) or they don't find a buyer........and end up selling all of their stock at a massively discounted rate to.....Music Magpie (Zoverstocks/estocks).
(having now had the pleasure of sit through two companys go into administration, the first one being a retailer).

Usually they have contract that they can return the stock. To remove the risk from stores, so they can stock stuff they otherwise wouldn't.
Funny how everyone says they used them a lot, and next minute say they haven't in few years. No wonder their out of business.
Didn't Play.com also close up just now? Amazon is seriously hammering the competition out. And TBH, i'm not complaining.
