My wife wants an iPhone for christmas and I am hopeless on this subject. What are the differences between the phones? I beleive there are 4. And what is expected cost of each one? She isn't a major phone user so should I start from the first one?

there's mainly an increase in processing power, other than that it's small changes between phones. make sure she knows how to watch her data on it, you can eat through data very quickly if you're not careful. I'd probably recommend getting her either the 4 or 4s, since they are older models that can still run everything with the lastest os

I would recommend either a 4, 4S, or 5. Keep in mind that, compared to the 5, the screen covers on the 4 and 4S are much, MUCH more prone to cracking, even with drops of a short distance.

I'd go for the 4. It's much better than a 3gs. I upgraded from 4 to 4s an the only difference is, siri, its a bit faster and a better camera. It's much cheaper than the 5 or 4s.
Also if i were you i would go with the network giffgaff on pay as you go. For 12.00 a month you can have Unlimited data an texts so it doesn't eat through the data. When i was on Vodafone i was getting 500mb data an it lasted me 1 week. Since ive been on the network giffgaff i can easily use upto 4gb data an only have pay 12 a month. I use it for watching youtube vids an listening to radio / spotify, msn, stuff like that... Also you can pay a minumum of 5.00 if you want an it runs of the 02 network!!!

Another thing, you get cash back aswell. If you post on there forums you get points an every 6 month you can exchange them for paypal cash or phone credit or whatever you want..
Also they got there own app aswell !!!

I would consider myself a techie, but I still bought an iPhone 5. And even with their locked down system, I only have 2 complaints. No icon for silent mode, and no real settings for the camera (but then, anything I need to do, I could fix on a computer).
But you can't really deny that the iPhone has a very more fluid system than any android. For fawk sake, I've even seen a Samsung Galaxy S3, which is supposted to be the iPhone 5 killer, but the frame-update is horrendous in comparison. Not to say that the ones I used to have, Sony (Ericsson) Arc 1 and Mini Pro are much better...

My phone run 60FPS android 4.2, it pisses over the iphone for speed and opening apps. 4.2 also manages the CPU and cycles it down when not in use, I get twice the battery life since updating to 4.2 :)

To bad none of the android phones i have are updated to 4.2. and updating them to 4.x was the worst I could do. It's harder to find the apps running (they even removed the ability to use keyboard to filter installed apps), and the battery went down instantly. until I found what apps ****ed me up
