Was thinking of making a points system and show somewhere (top page?) the top contributors.
1. 1 point for a forum post (spam?)
2. 10 points for posting news (and getting approved)
3. 20 points for posting an event (and getting approved)
4. 100 points for getting a mix on happyhardcore.com radio?
5. 1 point per min connected to the radio?
6. 1 point per min connected to chat room?
7. Special bonus points for helping out... like doing graphics, modding etc?
Then maybe a "give points" to people than answer questions or ID a track or something?
Ideas people :)

Sounds like a good idea to me man.
I reckon radio/chat and forum points should be kept separate. There are a lot of guys that just go in chat that aren't really involved with the forum, and some people just stay connected all day every day.
I like the idea of rating people's usefulness of posts. Like, award points for track IDs and stuff. :-)

Hmm, I think a reputation system might be ideal for a forum that has debate and feedback so oftenly

I agree. Although the amount of years i have spent in there means it would give me a good advantage lol (and not time spent just idling either). But yeah otherwise i think it is definitely unfair.

I don't think you'd get points for before, but from when it was implemented on.

That makes sense, i didn't really think about that lol. I think another good idea would be points for time registered to the site, however again i think that would be a problem because there would be countless people who registered in 2001 and either never posted or posted once or something like that. So points for being registered for a certain length of time but are required to still be active maybe. Although god knows how that would work though. Probably too complicated.

Don't really care, tbh. I don't mind helping out, but I'd rather just stay at 0 points. Speaking of which, is it possible to reset my postcount to 0, and keep it at 0 without banning me?

Newgrounds.com has something similar to this.
if you review tracks/game/video submissions you get "XP" toward your profile and you get a different avatar for each new rank you get (its just a simple jpeg).
But yea, that point spread would work. Im down

IP.Boards has a built-in "Rep" system that allows users to give others reputation points. It's possible that a similar system could be implemented (with only the option to give rather than subtract).
It could also be set up so that, alongside user-given reputation points, the system automatically assigns reputation points to members for certain things, such as reaching a forum post milestone (100 posts, 250 posts, 500 posts, etc.), posting news/events, a certain amount of time spent listening to the radio, etc.
It's all about you, you are the sunlight in my eyes setting goals.

There was this one guy back in 2001 who had his post count reduced to minus something ridiculous for spamming lol (his name is Oldskool or something), so while it may not be possible to keep it at 0 it could be possible to have it so far negative that it doesn't reach 0 to begin with anytime soon lol.

I don't like the rep system I toyed around with the idea before and it seems just like a power thing rather than something contributing to the site.
I like the idea of rewards or achievements, I know a few sites that do this already, something people could work towards and obtain.
Thoughts?
Although we'll need to have a special one called "I purchased a new gammer remix and loved it" where you have to make a video of yourself dancing to a recently remixed gammer tune whist holding the printed email from the site you bought it showing you support him :)
