Tis true, all dirt does is reduce friction where you want friction (between rims and pads) and adds friction where you don't (drive chain)

One of my bosses has just got a boardman road bike. He's got through 2 cranks in 450 miles!

The bearings in mine have been destroyed for over a year now or something like that. Has never stopped me from using it lol. Just grinds a bit.
