I knew my partner wasn't Christian before we started dating, and so far it hasn't been a problem. I'm Christian, and he leans more towards Buddhism, but doesn't practice it. We decided to just mutually respect each other's beliefs. Here lately though, I've just been re-thinking about it, and just wondered if anyone else has had success with this situation?

There's a good chance that this relationship won't go on any further. But that all depends on how "Christian" you are. Usually in heterosexual relationships, they're doomed from the beginning if they both don't share the same religious views. Unless they both loosely follow their religions, if they even acknowledge them at all.

So it all depends on really how into your religion you are, and what your pastor/priest or whatever says as well. He may not practice Buddhism, but that doesn't mean that he'll be giving it up anytime soon and convert to your religion .

I agree with whispering, I honestly never thought it that big of a deal.

The fact that you're Christian and believe in some ****ed up bible story I'd say that's more the issue

For how long have you been in the relationship with him? Have you been living together for w while?
If you aren't sure, try living together for a year or few and see how it works. If you're still a happy reasonable couple, get married. If things change too much towards worse, you can always divorce (a process that can last a year).

We've been together 2 months, and so far, it's just something we've accepted as a difference between us. I just recently started re-thinking about it and I wish I wouldn't had. We are planning on moving in together May 4th.

I've always thought of religion as a personal thing. If you're christian that's your relationship with Jesus or God or whatever... I never thought anyone else really entered into the equation.

I'm an atheist and i dated a devout catholic for over two years. We broke up, but it had nothing to do with religious beliefs, it was just a personality thing. For the record, she was raised catholic and her parents were DEVOUT catholics. They were okay with us being a couple. They are some of the only people i've ever had a conversation about religion with that didn't get heated.

It depends HOW christian you are. Are you devout? Then you should know that the Bible is pretty clear on christians only marrying christians. Then again, at some point is also says to stone your wife if she's not a virgin so... Some of the beliefs are a little archaic.

If it's not going to cause any problems (and i doubt anyone who is buddhist is going to cause problems over belief) then i don't see the harm to be honest. These things are always a case-by-case situation. It works for some, it doesn't for others.

Your profile says your male. Are you in a same-sex relationship? The Bible is pretty contradictory on that as well...

Where is Lilley? He always has good insight to these kinds of things, and a good knowledge of the Bible/christian faith.

facebook'd him.

hmm. I'm guessing that considering you have no issues letting him penetrate you and you're planning on moving in together, all that's really bothering you is some influence from the past. My guess is your christianity doesn't stretch far. If you do go to church is it one of the episcopalian new/emergent christianity type churches? Or is it an evangelical church?

As far as the topic heading goes, the answer would be no. There are reasons for it as well. But the question there is how do you define christian. Some have a much more stringent determination than just say so.

why should it matter?, i'm all for letting people believing what they want (except for scientology, they just wierd) but for me, far as i care the bible is just a lie about a one night stand pregnancy that went a bit too far :D

but seriously though i don't see it as a big deal, like lilley says it's how you define your own christianity. but as you mentioned above that you are planning to move in together, do you feel a bit awry about the whole situation of living together? this could be the reason why you are thinking in this way and you could be looking a way out of it.

i hope this isn't the case, take if from me, i felt as nervous as a turkey with Bernard Matthews grinning at it, but since we moved in together last year is been great!. if this is the case then don't worry but if you feel that you need to look further then the best option really is to either talk with a family member (i assume that they too are christians) to ask them of their own opinion or to ask your reverend (presuming you go to church on regularly). other than this you shouldn't let it bother you.

(in case anyone is interested, i'm an atheist me)

I would say that it has as much significance in the relationship as you having different tastes in food. That is however unless you feel like it matters. As others have said, it only matters as much as you think it does, which you don't because you said you respect each others beliefs.
I assumse latinxtc is joking.
