Question 3: In this case, would there be a noticeable difference or advantage/disadvantage of using Windows 32-bit vs. 64-bit? Or does it just not matter for my pretty basic requirements.

Cheese.

I've done this to a lot of people that dont require much from their PC.
A: forget windows 7, it'll do you nothing good, it'll only require much more from your PC.
B: Reinstall windows, this should be done every second year. Minimum. The sexy beast that she is, attracts all the scum. You need to do a total clean up every now and then. No shitty program can do it for you.

If you're going to listen my advise, i'll give you a more detailed instructions how to do the former. A step by step if needed.

You reckon I'll be alright to run Windows 7 on 2GB RAM then? Or is that not what you're saying - and I should just carry on using XP?

Cheers for your help :-)

You could take that one step further, and run N-lite with your Original WinXp boot disc.
Or just download "Micro-XP"
I would recomend using N-lite over Micro-XP.
N-lite is safer, more legal, and probably more stable in the long run, and does the same thing as Micro-XP.

I got it running fine on a Dell Dimension 8200, a few models up from your one.
(Or that just might be an international thing, different countries, different model numbers)
