Has anybody done this with a pair of vinyl turntables and a mixer? I saw serato, traktor and vdj have sets that enable you to do as such. (I've seen ravine do some awsome shit with this setup and wanted to try it out.)

Yes I've had Serato for quite a few years now, absolutely love it. TBH though if you're mainly mixing new music I'd say just buy some CDJ's and be done with it. Better to practice on what you'll be using in clubs most of the time.

I went to DVS because I got bored with controller mixing. Between DVS and CDJs, I still prefer DVS because I feel more engaged with the task of mixing.

5 Speed Automatic -> 5 Speed Manual -> 6 Speed manual
Controller mixing -> CDJ -> DVS

Personal preference on all accounts. DVS is also more expensive than CDJs.

My setup:

Traktor
SL-1210MK2s
Xone:4D
Desktop Computer (needed for video encodes)

You can see it in action here: http://www.destinationradiodenver.com/index.php?topic=244.msg290#msg290

I do like being able to mix between MP3 and vinyl, too. I've been wanting to start collecting makina back catalogs on vinyl.

use traktor scratch pro 2 myself, like it over serato for the controllerism. also prefer how the tracks play in traktor (left to right) versus serato (down to up).

it's really weird going to play with hardly any records though =P
