Tried making a house track with a bit of old school vibe, while at the same time trying to keep it fresh sounding. Phrasing like this makes me seem like I know what I'm doing, but I'm really just going with the flow. Since I can't keep away from breaks, there's a little breakbeat part in there, too.

Love the melody and progression. It's simple but to the point. I also think that levels and overall mixdown are pretty good on this one. good stuff. I love the way the breaky bit throws the house out the window, too! ;)

awesome :) :) :) I do house aswell now and also try to put a touch of oldskool in it!
your track is great, loving the melody, the piano, that synth over the piano in the begining, the only things I'd try to work on are:
- kick: this one on the other hand is too hard- I've done 2 tracks with a kick like that, which me and my friends played in clubs, and it's definitely too hard! on speakers or headphones in might sound good, but trust me in clubs the tracks sound completely different! it reminds me of a lot of tracks back in 2005-2006 where tracks had almost kicks like that, more "TOK" kicks, here the difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaOy9PvXQzU (good old kick) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLUpxf_U9SM (love the bit at 3:05, joachim garraud always rocks :) good memories) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuMFW--1r5w (already less) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7V_vOME9OQ (extreme cheesy kick even if Avicii is good, with tracks like Levels, still very cheesy and more deep instead of "TOK", but that's Avicii his style)
But your kick is still too hard, even compared to the "harder" tunes I would also put softer kicks in your breakbeat section and work on the bassline there, it's really gonna make it much much better :) breakbeats should be cheesier so that when the kick kicks in, it really does give a "KICK-"effect
all in all it's a really good track, I think if you change these things you could even get it signed. good idea, good production, well done mate :)

Oh and- You're track kind of sounds slow, are you sure it's 133 bpm? try puttin some speed with drums and percussions :) hi hats etc, you know...
I'm listening again now and actually you could just decrease the volume of the kick, that should do it I think. are you using a sidechain compressor? if you do that, and you use a sine wave like I said, you can get a really cool dynamic effect.
in the end your kick won't be less harder but it will feel less harder, therefore keep this "hardervibekick" like in the tracks I showed, without being too extreme :) ahhh really great it is!

Yeah like this mate, very nice. Agree with Rev's that the kick and bass aren't quite right yet, should tweak them a little bit. Good work though mate.

Dunno what a sidechain compressor is, but I've sidechained the bass with the kick, with a peak controller on the kick decreasing the volume knob in a Fruity balance plugin on the bassline channel. If that was what you meant? The bassline was actually heavier, think I may have EQ'd out some sub to get a more pounding feel with the kick, but this is the first house track I've finished so out of my comfort zone really :p
I'll try and change up the kick and bass a little, and try some other hats, see what works. Not sure what to do with the breakbeat bit to make it cheesier, but I'll try some different variations, see what I can come up with, and if I want to change it ;p

yeah thats what I ment, everytime the kick kicks in it compresses/squeezes the bassline :) when the bassline is off beat it will affect it very differently. brcause theres an empty space where the bassline should be and therefore nothing to squeeze :) glad I could help. did you make the breakbeat youself or is it a sample/loop? if you made it youself just replace the kick in the breakbeat with a softer kick :)

Yeah, the bassline was always constant, so gets squeezed when the kick hits. Made the breakbeats myself, so was pretty to get a more breaks sounding kick, just drag in a different sample, eh ;)
I've lowered the volume on the main kick now, beefed up the bass a little and changed the hats, but still not sure how to make the breakbeat bassline cheesier :p Tried a couple different things but can't settle on anything I like, yet. Changed the lead there to a less noisy one tho!
Also added some rather subtle pads, I'll update the track on soundcloud in a moment, just rendering atm!
