It's just a well known venue, nothing more really.
Legendary in the area for many years, i had some good nights there a LONG time ago Certainly not much to do with Hardcore other than the odd night. Was originally more about the housier side of rave music, then recently mostly cheesy bounce/donk stuff.

Wigan is a city in the north of england, in wigan there is a place called Wigan Pier, which has a venue (place of rave!) of the same name.
the venue is famed for playing Bouncy House (or just 'bounce' or 'scouse house' as some call it)
wigan pier is not a genre, its a place!
the wigan pier cds usually labelled "Wigan pier vol1..2..3 etc etc" which led to a few people mistakenly labelling the Bouncy House genre as 'Wigan Pier' - which is where the confusion stems from

Oooooh that is lair!! The pier is a bit lame though really, all about the seafront. The clubs are literally spitting distance from the beach. In summer so many raves in seafront clubs that have poured out onto the beach. Love it :D

Yeah its basically just a nightclub in Wigan, down the road from me. Its a very well known club because of the CDs (think they are upto like volume 65 or something now). The CDs are just recorded DJ mixes, they arent legal in the way that the music isnt properly licensed etc and you cant buy them in high street stores. Lots of bootleg stuff on them etc. Most of the independant vinyl and music stores in the area used to sell them, the artwork was often 2 famous cartoon characters.
But yeah, its just a nightclub that plays bounce music. Although there is a hardcore event there this month with Darren Styles playing among others. The main resident DJ at Pier is a guy called Ben T.
Wigan Pier Presents Bounce is an official legal CD release that is available for sale on all the main music websites, HMV, Amazon etc. There are 2 volumes of this.
There are alot of other clubs in the area that did CDs that sold in independant music shops and still do, Wigan Pier is the most famous because its been around the longest. Other notable clubs in the area that did CDs are Maximes (A nightclub in wigan now called WN2), Monroes (a nightclub in Blackburn that burnt down), Cricketers (a nightclub in Wigan, not sure if its still open), Medicine and Pleasure Rooms (both Liverpool way). So it shows just how big the bounce/scouse house scene is over this way, when there are/was maybe 7 or 8 clubs over this way most well known for that type of music all withing about 40 miles of eachother and probably another 15-25 clubs that all do the odd nights dedicated to the music.
