When I search I always have to do it twice because first time it thinks a while but then this error comes up:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired
/forums/search.asp, line 696
When I search again it works fine.

Same thing has been happening to me for months as well. Unfortunately this is what happens when a site is being held together by several rolls of duct tape. Not dissing silver or anything but, wow, what I would give for a move to a different forum software like vBulletin or FusionBB.

We can't switch unless you want to start the forums from scratch again.

actually, thats not necessarily true. I know a forum that did switch recently, and held all their archives. but it took quite a bit of work and a while running around afterwards.

You should have used scotch tape.

Moving to other software isn't the answer.... the automated spam bots for one would do my head in...
Actually the site is quite robust in terms of staying online and running but the volume of topics is starting to catch up with the server, it's not just a software issue it's more or less a hardware one as well, I'm already looking into getting a beefer server spec wise in the next few months that should help things out.
