Old skool, old skool, nothin' like da old skool! Its a good rap, but an even better way of thinking!
In 2009 its all to easy for us to always look forward, forgetting the past. Records sit gathering dust in the big DJs bedrooms, tracks more than a few weeks old are seen as 'past it'...we're all guilty of it but every now again its great to remember the good times we've had and the brilliant music we've shared. Hardcore Underground is all about variety, so my last show(s) of 2009 will be all about variety. Let's get it on!
As Hardcore Underground 4 approaches over the horizon (October 19th, wow!) its time for me to put my old skool hat on for the first time on a HU show and go back to the classics. "Old skool yeah? You mean Awesome 3 mixed into Bombscare mixed into Awesome 3 mixed into Edge 1?" No my friend, Old skool trance!
From a time when trance was harder than most hardcore, labels like EDM, Spaceflower, Fog Area, United Ravers & Tunnel have stood the test of time and still sound amazing 12/15 years on. We owe so much to M Zone, for bringing the sound over to the UK, and to people like Hixxy, Billy Bunter & Mark EG for exposing main arenas across the UK to the sounds of German trance. Who remembers Hixxy playing at Skelter Decadance Oct 99? I was there, at the front, going mad to this stuff. At the time it was so refreshing, a new direction maybe!? Shortly after this Raverbaby was born, with the same sounds and kicks from the German labels. The rest, as they say, is history!
Anyway, enough waffling.
