I'm no dj but howcome his decks are facing sideways, how can he beatmatch when the tempo adjuster is by the back of the mixer?

He uses Serato as far as I know, dunno how it works with pitch ;p

Sometimes you'll see him reach back there. But he's just damn good, I've seen him reach back there maybe a couple times.

Uhh.. that's called the battle style, thousands of DJ's put their TTs like that. It's made for scratching, so you don't hit the tonearm, what actually happened quite a lot to me 
And yeah of course he has to pitch the tracks, but what are you expecting him to do ? Be on the pitch control during all the mix or what ? lol …
You do it once when you play a new track and that's it ;)

I have spun with my decks battle style for so long I have trouble when they are setup normal because the pitch control is in the wrong place =P

i mix with my tables setup battle/scratch style as well, i have no problem with getting to the pitch control. another reason is b/c i scratch to some tracks now and then, so it a lot easier to scratch battle style, as usual.
