A few weeks ago Acidfluxxbass posted a track that he made: http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=44343

It's a remix of Green Hill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog.

I really liked the idea of working on this track and I have come up with a remix. Credit goes to Fluxx for the original track and the inspiration for the remix along with a really top notch attitude to someone else working on his track

I know the mixdown is pretty rough but I don't think I can work on it much longer with my very limited knowledge of mastering. All feedback is welcome:

ouch, there is a high frecuency in some parts that is really killing my ears (00:49-01:04 and 04:40 - 05:10) its not just annoing, it actually hurts a little, you should EQ it

other than that its ok, it has a nice video game feel

I never really got around to EQ'ing that synth properly. It's only used for about 60 seconds in the whole track and I don't think it's that bad that it ruins the track.

As said by Naturatech those high frequencies need to be EQ'd. Also, to a lesser extent, the ring sound that plays just needs a bit taking of he highs.

Think the kick could do with being brought up in the mix or even changing, it just doesnt seem to boom like i want it to. I do like the idea of a big kick drum old skool style Sonic track, i think that's how the hog himself would want it, it may just be the mastering though. Liking the sort of D&B breakdown, but there's them highs again. Nice little piano bit aswell. Ilike how it keeps changing up keeps it interesting. Video game tunes can get a bit boring, obviously because its just the same tune, but you did a good job keeping this one from getting mundane.

And yeah that ending is pretty cool! Nice touch.

Youve (and Acidfluxx too) inspired me to get back to work on my own Sonic remix. Dont think ill be doing owt with it, i can see this game core thing, though while still fun and exciting now, getting too much. Nice work Mortis, overall really good track mate.

i think this has no more ear-splitting attribute than the original tbh :)
high frequency is only keeping with the trend, I guess!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

I've tried to get rid of the high frequency on that synth and might just post up a new version later.

Damaging people's hearing isnt really a trend. Didnt hear a full quality version of the original so i cant say (will check it out) but those high frequencies are damaging mate, whether you think theyre part of what makes the track or not they need to go. If this track were played on a loud system, which im sure is the hope and im sure that it will be played, it could really hurt some poor ****ers ear drums.

If you're struggling to deal with frequency peaks use a spectrum analyser on the offending sounds to see where the problem is and put a dip there with a parametric EQ. If the sound is mainly playing in the problem area you should probably just make a new patch/find a new sample.

Will check this out later. :)

good work Mortis. Always been a huge fan of Sonic & the music in the levels & you (& olly) have done a great job transforming this into a hardcore track.

as for the high freq synth. I must agree with everyone else. It really does rattle the drums but easily fixed mate & well worth fixing IMO.

I'd love to have a go @ remixing this myself to be honest *looks @ olly*

Not bad man ya starting to get that oldskool sound down. :) Definitely need to take care of them nasty peaks though!

Would have liked to hear some sort of sample used for a hook too.

Ah, must have gone over my head?

Oh btw Mortis where did you get the samples you used in this track mate? Got some already but could always do with a few more.
