Well I can certainly see it. The visible compression is especially bad around the letters. Bear in mind that this also effects other people's avatars (if they upload one that is 100x100, 100x99, 99x100. The system doesn't automatically compress avatars if they are 99x99 or less, yet the limit is 100x100).

get a better graphics card and you wont even notice it

I spent 7 minutes working on that avatar, and I don't want to see any jpg compression shite on it.

Ok, a better example:

What the forum did to it:

Most other members don't seem to be affected because they haven't changed their avatars in a while.

You cant see the diffrence in THAT image. Take a 100kb jpeg, compress it down to 25kb. If you cant see a diffrence id recommend getting some glasses or a new monitor :p

That's nice, but my point is, it says the maximum avatar image size is 100x100px. If it is over 100x100, the system automatically resizes and converts the image to jpg. However, for some reason, if an image is either 100x100, 99x100, or 100x99, the system still automatically resizes and converts the image to jpg, which is bloody pointless. That's the problem.

With a less powerful video card:

With a more powerful video card:

Mate that is not how it works.

lol i supose not, all im saying is that, for example, i can insert an imagine on my myspace page using html code. I will downscale the image using the tags:

img src="http://mypicturehostedhere.com/fdkdj.jpg width="200" height="150"

and on most computers (ones which do not have a good graphics card) i view my myspace page with, the picture is very pixelated, on computers that do have a graphics card, it isnt pixelated..

Image scaling is a tad different from image compression.

(Also, with your case, it probably has to do with the browser)
