i have something called the Discwasher... it's like a brush that you put a few drops of solution on and apply to the vinyl... wipes off dust and keeps vinyl nice and clean
also, never put a record in a cardboard sleeve unless there's a paper liner...that should keep your records relatively dust-free as well

no worries :)
i keep mine in paper sleeves inside cardboard sleeves... it's more bulky and cumbersome but at least this way they're reasonably well protected

Use water, it doesn't hurt the record at all.

i think a lot of people are afraid to use something as simple as water on their vinyl. i have used it on mine after i'll play when i know there is going to be a lot of crud on them. (ie fog juice, spilled drinks, raver sweat, etc.) then i'll go over them with an anti-static brush after they've dried....

I have like a bunch of really old 7"-ers which got wet during a flooded basement, and it's pretty ugly.

Depends what your definition of "good" is... If you like old crappy music (a few were half decent), then you should be crying at such a great loss...
