Hmph - I tried ripping a copy of a tape I have to put on CD, and the flippin piece of crap sound filter don't work right at all. I ran a tape hiss removal on it, and all that happens is it mutes out the hiss during silence. What the heck? It's like BOOM-HISS..quiet...BOOM-HISS...quiet...BOOM-HISS...quiet. Argh! Should I just give it up? I suppose I might as well just leave it unchanged, so that it's as close to the original as possible, but it kind of pisses me off nonetheless... The hissing is probably compounded, as well, by the fact that the tape is a copy from the original... Ah, well.

how do u rip tapes it could be useful for me as i always break my tapes

Basically the way I did it, was run a patch cable through the tape deck line out (NOT THE HEADPHONES - that'll give you crappy sound), and plug it to the line in on your sound card. Then, using Cool Edit Pro or some such software, record it, adjusting the recording level so it isn't so high that it cuts itself. (Basically, keep it out of the red.)

I've had to do this a few times, and my way is quite effective.
You'll need a program like Sound Forge with the Sound Forge "Noise Reduction" plug-in.
This works by you playing a short part of the blank section of the tape...the bit where theres just the noise only before the music starts, then it takes a "noise print".
It then knows what has to be removed from the entire track, and anything other than this it leaves alone. You end up with a great result and the only way you'd really notice it is if you hear a fade out on the end of the track, it'll sound "metallic", a digital sound thing.
If you can, try that. But if you REALLY want THE program to do it, IMHO the best I've heard then you need this:

Cool! Does this work for removing samples, etc? Like, if I had a beat I wanted to remove from a vocal sample, could I just feed it the beat and it'd strip it from the song?

the best you can do with drum removal is to eq it out.but that way if you got any bass playing you'll lose that too

Nah the best way to do it is BUY a CD recorder DECK (no pc needed)
mine cost around £450 but they do have cheaper ones
u can coppy cd to cd TAPE to cd and Vinly to cd....u can even do your own mix on to cd instead of tape from vinyl AND IT ALL MIXES IN track no silences no crap sound perfect MINE IS PHILIPS CDR 770 DIGITAL AUDIO there worth having as i use it every day . the cd r's are £15 for 10
and cd rw are £20 for 6 they cost this because there so good!
GET A CD RECORDER DECK........! connect it too your decks and amp or any other audio!

that's great that they do that but do they remove noise from the tape? i pretty much swear by sound forge. works great for splicing up mixes as well....

yep it does remove the noise u just plug some leage into the headphone socket and it removes it u place your headphones in the cd recorder because u only record tape through headphones
p.s I THINK MOST PC'S ARE SH*T FOR RECORDING....sum r ok but never better than digital audio

u pay way too much for your cd-r's and cdr-w's i got 5 cd-rw's for £3.95
and 10 cd-r's cost like £5 from a shop like woolworths

That is such bull. LOL. Who told you that? The reason digital audio CD-Rs are more expensive is because there are levies imposed upon the discs' sale in some countries, so the discs have a special code written in the "ATIP", or "pre-groove" (blank disc info section before data area on disc) which consumer level CD-R Audio equipment looks for to make sure you paid the levy. It's all about money. It just makes me sick... And to get a recorder which uses normal CDs you need to buy a "professional" level player, which is made so expensive most people can't afford them when they can just get a computer, and a Roland USB audio input thingy.
