My mate does an atm course (access to music) and has been told to get an Ibook (apple mac) as it is vital for compatibility with todays technologies & software used for creating Dance music, primarily Hardcore - is there any truth in this?

mayb the security.. windows security is hella heavy shit... mac can do more.. so you have more oppetunity to do things with music couse of the copyrights and stuff ... but that would make no sence :p it even sounds stupid..
nother reason note that its ibook wot points to itunes and ipod the new music shit.. well you can use that with windows or linux aswell ...

I would say generally most progs etc are compatibe with windows systems. It is down to personal prefrence.
Really though there is no truth in getting a ibook is better for production, im sure most would agree with me

Well...you don't need an Apple Computer to do producing...nor do you need Mac OS X. But it is top of the line hardware and a wicked operating system.
I don't see what's incredibly better about using a Mac over windows for producing music...

Mac's are the industry standard for music production along with Windows so it's essential to learn that OS too, but there should be no requirment for you to buy such a reasourse, especially such an expensive one, they should supply those resources for you. As for buying an I-Book there is no need to buy one whatsoever, normal Mac OS's should do, but as i said it's something they should have if they are meant to be teaching you how to use them.

I hate mac os x, much prefer windows but I have to work with them so it's crap. Got used to it but I would always choose windows for music production. It's just personal preference and yes apple love money hense rumours :)

Hmmm...I'd just like to go on record to say I've always been a mac user and will forever be one...
This thread sounds a little anti-apple to me...

top of the line hardware? you can build a PC which is much faster (and fully customized for music production) for much cheaper
OS X is superior to windows but you can't use older software on it (some older apps come in useful sometimes)
stick with a PC.

Yeh. Its true. A quad Xeon (even watercooled) can be built for about 3/4 the cost of a Xeon Powermac.
