good idea Jax!
You could get a 5kW petrol generator for the sound system though and then get a solar generator for the lights!
5kW sound system though..... I hope you have deep pockets! Just looked up this baby which is 4.8kW.... the price? including discount, £2299!!
http://www.justgenerators.co.uk/pages/Pramac_P6000S.htm Lighting rig is gonna add a fair chunk more to your output. Work out your total power consumption then that'll give you a figure to work on.

and that 4,800W petrol generator won't be able to run a 5,000W sound system
a typical amp has at least 30% overhead
so you'd need 5000 * 1.3 = 6500W
Plus you don't necessarily want to go to the max the generator can provide so getting a 7000W generator would be a good idea
$$$$

Just rent a couple of Generators mate. Your lights will each be 250Watts minimum so if you have three you could run your decks lights and all other gubbins on one Generator (2 kW) and then have your rig on the other (thats what I did however I only had a 3.5kw rig).
I bought one generator at 3kW for £150 and rented a 2kW one for £35. So it all depends on how many parties you are going to do.
Make sure you get an earthing pole with your rentals you don't want to electrocute your self.
Two long extension cables to keep the Generators out of ear shot and make sure the connection matches ie they tend not to have normal plug sockets but sip generator plug sockets.
Another thing to note is one generator ran out of oil and caused itself to shut down as a built in safety mechanism (most annoying at 7am when you want to keep the party going).
