^^^ its true, kids carried knives when I was young 10 years ago - although there has been a bit more of a casualness to stabbing people more recently.
I think its connected witht he whole happy slapping. not in that happy slapping has caused more stabbings, but they both demonstrate a complete disregard for other people and their well being. These are complete strangers - not other thugs who bashed your brother or stole your pack of fags.
to my mind carrying a knife without good reason then it should be as bad as carrying a gun. By good reason, if your wandering round witha fishing rod and tackle box then fair enough, but what reason is there for carrying a switchblade in your back pocket?
The "use it to defend myself" excuse means **** all too! For starters - why not carry a gun and use the same excuse? Plus if you pull a knife on someone it is so easy to have that knife turned back on yourself - it actually makes you more likely to get stabbed.
Sorry about what happened to you Fishy - you did right not to fight back though.

I got a knive when I was 14 and didnt know any better, thinking I was protecting myself. Getting older I realised it was daft and I now keep it under my bed in case of intruders - I had a bad experience as a child and am still scared of someone breaking into my home. Admittedly a baseball bat would be a lot more effective.
That sucks though Fishy, I've had plenty experience of gettin a punch simply for sticking out (being 6ft 4") and it's utterly infuriating. Try not to let it bother you, as hard as it may be.
