Can i connect both my decks and pc to my monitors at the same time?
You can see in the pic below there are spare connectors on the back on the speakers but im not sure if its going to be ok having both connected?
i tried to connect my soundblaster live card to the mixer (tried all channels) and the sound quality was piss poor, not sure whats up there?
if you need any more info just ask
Just ordered this ^ so i havnt had chance to try anything yet

it *may* work..... although if your mixer is a DJ mixer on RCA (phono) outs then it will be unbalanced, and the audiophile is definitely unbalanced so you will need correct leads to go from unbalanced to balanced on one of the units.
A more elegant solution might be if you have a spare line level channel on your mixer you could feed the pc through the mixer and then the mixer to the unbalanced input on your speakers.
A third option would be to buy a seperate mixer to feed through, something along the lines of
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=1&criteria=mixer&ModuleNo=31137&doy=24m4 would be suitable, and is reasonably priced. Or you can get switcher boxes too from maplin for doing the same thing

thanks for your ever resourceful reply underloop :)
im not too sure what balanced and un-balanced mean? but anyway going off the way the speakers are marked up, rca is balanced and 1/4" jack + xlr arnt? does that mean i can use the unbalanced input on the back of the speaker? (*if* it works that is)
just incase it makes it anything any clearer V
what does that mixer do that you posted the link to? output from both mixer and pc into the mixer then the mixer into the speakers?

Other way round. RCA is unbalanced (only 2 connections - tip and sleeve). XLR and TRS are balanced (TRS stands for Tip Ring Sleeve - hence 3 connections). I might be wrong, but tip is always "hot" and sleeve is always ground. The ring in a balanced output provides a phase balanced copy of the hot signal from memory (but I'm usually wrong!).
Basically, balanced is better - less chance of interference from outside sources such as mains leads, lighting etc. Use balanced where possible, as you appear to be doing!
You have a spare line input on chans 3 and 4 of your mixer so wire your soundcard up here, and when you want to listen to your computer rather than your deck, just switch that channel over to line rather than phono.
And yes, the maplin mixer would be wired that way.
*edit* just re-read the post and I see you've already tried the soundcard to DJ mixer thing. Did you have both soundcard volume at a decent level going into the mixer so that you didn't have to boost the gain on the mixer too much - that could be one issue (gain structure). Erm, not sure what else to suggest other than that. The output from the soundblaster would be line level I'm guessing. I have 4 channels of my soudcard (M-Audio Delta 1010LT) wired through my mixer no probs.

Oh, just had another thought - you weren't connecting the rear speakers up to the mixer instead of the front/main speakers were you? That would probably produce a very thin sound with just the extremes of the stereo field being played back through the speakers.

its the high frequnecy adjust, its knock -2 dB of the high end and you aint gettin a through response on the high end of your monitors, have it set to 0

Gary: it depends on the room. If the high frequencies are uncomfortable when he's (DJ) mixing theres no problem turning them down. Only if he's doing some proper engineering/production/mixing that you should aim for a completely flat response, and still then it depends on room acoustics. I can't see that causing any problem with going through the mixer.
When you describe the quality as "piss poor" can you be a bit more descriptive? Do you lose the bottom end? Is the signal noisy? Quiet?
Have you got the Audiophile hooked up yet? If so, in your audio editor of choice make a sine wave about 250Hz at 0dBfs amplitude. Adjust your software mixer (the M-audio utility in the task tray) until the levels read 0dB. Plug through to your mixer and adjust the line gain until your channel level meters also read 0dB. What do your main level meters on the mixer now read?

it sounded a bit like this: (but at low volumes it seemed ok)
http://www.nuenergy.co.uk/ram/ELEM017-AA the new soundcard is still in the post but ill bear in mind what you said when i fit it about the HF level, if im doing a mix and im recording i remember to put it on 0db, but the rest of the time ill have leave it at -1 because my ears hurt for hours after ive used them otherwise thanks again guys

Wouldn't have a problem if they are been used for mixing but for engineering they gotta be flat, Turn them down if there hurting your ears, Thre shouldn't be a problem engineering at low volumes , turn it up every now and again to see how it sounds, but IMO I would keep it at 0dB.
I can see where your coming from Underloop,
How big is the room he is using Jaxon and the Rokits are nearfields so they would be the best bet for a small room.

i do get a bit of hiss through the speakers which im a bit unsure about? is that down to cables?
i have to have the speaker volume set to about 5% else it would probably blow up the speakers, is there somewhere to change this cause i dont want some idiot goin on my pc and blowing my monitors up cause they aint got a clue
