Hi Mates.

Im think of buying a USB Midi Keyboard for use with reason.

Do any of you use a MIDI keyboard with reason? if so is it easy to set up?

Is it possible to have an NNXT sampler device loaded with the sample you want, then is it just a case of pluging in the keyboard and recording through that device to the sequencer?

thansks

-tibbz

also, can anyone recommend any good makes?

Yeah it's pretty straight forward with usb keyboards (On XP), Just plug it in and windows will sort out the driver, you don't need to do anything or install any software.

As for using it in reason 2.5 it's also easy, you need to select your keyboard in the midi section of the preferences menu, then all you have to do is click on the keyboard icon for the track you want, and you will be able to record what you play. Within 2 minutes you'll be using it, and it's great to have.

Though if you want to use other controllers (knobs and buttons) thats a bit more complicated with reason 2.5 and you'll have to either use remote overide mapping or program the controller to send the right midi cc's. Which means you'll have to keep changing presets on your keyboard or be limited to what devices you can controll. It was a real pain in the ass.

In reason 3 it's easy as **** to controll stuff. You should buy a keyboard that reason 3 supports, it makes things so easy. My keyboard isn't supported, but I have an evolution x-session that is, and I use that for controlling filters and other stuff. It's dead easy to swith between devices.

***Edit***
These are the controllers that reason 3 supports, buy one thats on that list if you ever plan to upgrade to reason 3. You'll be able to do more and do it with less hasle.
