OMG, listening to allllll this crazy hardcore just gets me hyped to learn to be a dj. Is there anywhere i can learn? Online tutorials, anything? I want to some day, senior year in highschool, perform a special hardcore/club edition dance. They wont know what to expect =D. But i look everywhere and cant find shit. What i need, how to actually dj, WHERRREEE????!!!

We all learned on our own I don't think anyone will teach you. You just gotta now what makes a hardcore track. But first just learn how to write music in general.

#1 he said he wanted to become a DJ not a producer. there are many misconceptions about DJing and the most prominent is all Dj's have to make their own music. fact is very few actually make their own music. a Dj plays the music to a crowd, readin the crowd and playing tunes they think will make everyone happy. its about the track selection and mixing tracks together, thats the Dj's job. some Dj's make their own music, but not all. understand this.
#2 no he's not on his own, any decent person will help him as much as possible if he asks :D (which he did)
so, arta, now you have to make a decision. will you be using Decks or your Computer. also what kind of techno, dont try and bounce all over the place. pick house/hardcore/trance whatever, perfect that. trying to be all over the place when your first starting will make it 100x harder. perfect 1 style then move onto the next.anywas;
Decks you'll want to make sure you are buying Direct Drive (belt driven suck, they are such peices dont even go within 50 feet of belt driven decks)
with decks you ahve to remember that Touqe is good, the more Tourqe the better the decks.
Technik 1200's are pretty much the best decks out there, you can pick up an older pair for a decent price (they arnt cheap but for the most part these things are built to last so unless they were severally abused they should be good) plus these are pretty much the decks used at all the clubs/raves
if your using a computer then Traktor Dj Studio is your best bet (i use i personally, since my house got broken into and most of my electronics were stolen)
computers are severally limiting. there's stuff you can do with decks that you cant touch with computers (not without spending way more money then it would cost to just get decks in the first place) computers can auto-beatmatch but i wouldnt recommend using this if you ever plan on getting decks, since decks dont come with an auto beatmatcher.
there's a really good tutorial on stuff at www.di.fm in the forums. im just covering the basics. if you do get decks, it will take you a long time to get good, this isnt something you pick up and then a week later goto perform at a rave it takes a long time and alot of practice. for learning to beatmatch, on decks or in Traktor. try playing the same song and then beatmatch and sync it up so it plays continuously(sp?) and sounds good.
also if you use the comp, buy the cd's and copy the traxx, or buy the mp3's, plz dont make money off of pirated music/software.

The only advice I can give is lots and lots of time and practice.just remember you can mix and and everything BUT,DJing is NOT producing.Producing is where its at.

practice a lot, try to find people in your area who do spin, has to be someone out there, most are willing to show you the ropes, but after that you're on your own. Also go buy a basic music theory book if you don't know how to count beats and bars, understand keys, and how to interpret a song's structure. Dance music has a very specific formula to it, and I can't tell you how many times people have asked me this question and don't know any music theory. It is a huge help to know how and when to mix!

Well if you gonna be a DJ you gotta ask yourself what method would you like most and be more comfortable with. You can either mix Vinyls, CDs, MP3s, and DVD (personally I prefer vinyl records). Then the next thing you gotta do is look in your wallet. If your on a budget I don't think you'll want to shell out $2000 for something you don't even know how to use. Start with like a starter pack or something. Ifyour gonna mix MP3s then you can just go ahead and get Traktor DJ if you want.
Price Ranges for Turntables are:
Technics: Some would say 1200s are the gods of the turntables. Well it's probably true! These things are built to last, and they're heavy too!These babies go for like $377-419 for one turntable or $739 If your into the Gold Edition >_>
Numark: I remember when I got my Numark DJ Battle Starter Pack. My first set of turntables. You can probably get them for around $229-$399 with a pair of TT1625 a DM950 Mixer , some needles, and headphones. If your on a budget you can start out with these and work you way up. Although I recommend you should only use them for Bedroom DJing. Numarks are pretty cheap and then TTXs come with a OMTFG a BPM readout O_O.... starting prices are $295 to about $399.
Vestax: I heard some pretty good things about these although I've never used them myself. The one that really catches my eye though is the QFO with it's unique design. Looks perfect for scracthing, but these can get pretty pricey. If you can spend $899.00 - $1,199.00 then be my guest.

even if you use Traktor and plan on eventually getting decks, bpm readouts are the devil. say you get used 2 them, get booked for a really big show, arrive @ the place, only to find the decks they're hosting done have a bpm readout, or the displays broken. How embarassing (lol acutally i know some1 this happened 2, funnyest shyte ever hahahaha).
sure they are fun and easy, but learning to interpret bpm urself is a very key skill. never trust the bpm readouts. they are the spawn of satan! and other such fun stuff :D

thanks dj dontstop, i was wondering though, i kinda get the idea of buying all the equipment, and i thought about it and would like to mix vinyls >_<, but after buying the hardware, is there anywhere on anyone that will tell you how to exactly mix and scratch, etc?

The only way to learn to do that properly is TIME and EFFORT. Many people who think that they want to spin are put off pretty quickly by how much they actually have to put into it. If you really want it, you'll stick with it.

along with practicing, listen to and watch other djs. knowtice where their hands, fingers, and crossfaders are.
there are several books and videos available but I think they are a waste of time & money.

a good example, sy vs. brisk. sy spends most of the time scratching and little on mixing, whereas brisk will wind up mixing records together for a good 2 minutes

how i started.. i searcht for good dj stuff and found a program (q-base) im making music with it promoting myself and turning tables on local party when i was 12 years old im 17 now and still kíck'n the bazz.. now im turning tables in clubs not as a pro but you need to start somewhere.. im now busy with organising an party with (happy)hardcore, hardstyle, trance, dance, terror and many more just some local party with some good dj's from small places in the netherlands but it will be great.. to bad that i havn't got money for special artist...

best user friendly software is magix so easy to use cubase requiures a lot of fidiling about and by the time youve got it all sorted youve lost the heart for it magix music maker pro and profesional great stuff and cubase is excellent if you are willing to read the hundreds and hundreds of pages to get to know how to use it
