Is this possible yet? i puted on a cd on my mates home cinema with surround stuff and i started thinking about how cool it would be if the music was produced in surround ..like hearing effects and vocals going around ...how cool wouldnt it be if in the raves they put 4 big speakers to make surround on the club ..think of the feeling you would get raving !!SUPER TRIP!!
..well maybe im looking to far into the future ...

You can do it.
You just need a sequencer that will allow you to have 4 or more output channels.
They you can assign different instruments to different channel like front left or back right...
The trippiness wouldn't be in the music, it would be in the FX....
Oh man, I want to make some music in surround sound!!

check out some DVD audio discs if you are into that stuff, a lot of them sound AMAZING. On a nice system check out the linkin park REANIMATION, dvd audio disc, its mixed to 96khz 5.1, and it sounds excellent even if you dont really like the songs.

dunno, i heard some pieces (not in hardcore) that was produced on n for surround sound, but when I played them off my pair of monitors, it came out distorted.
i was thinking since the sounds were spread out over 4 or 6 channels, perhaps the surround sound placing was forced into each side and came out distorted. But still dun really know if its a matter of the mixdown.

one thing is actual producing in surround, which is rather easy (u use some seuqncer with surround panning, i'm not sure whether cubase supports it, but nuendo does for sure)...
but the other and more complicated thing is, how to deliver the content to the customer, there are several standards of encoding (dobly surround, dolby digital, dts, sacd etc.) so u have to do some research on it

Only problem is that you could never press it to vinyl or CD you would have to play it off DVD-J's which do actually exist in Japan... then you would need a surround sound PA system to play it live...
Unless there was an upgrade to CD-J's that read data to play AACplus encoded files to play surround sound... hmm interesting, but considering most PA systems at party's still run in Mono I don't know how far you could go with this....

Well, you could produce in surround sound and put in on DVD with an equally fitting video, but then mix down to stereo for regular usuage.
