i've noticed that on here u people don't agree with downloading
mp3's, and that's kool!i know that it takes $$$ out the artist pocket,
but at the same time it let's people know how good a certain thing iz!
4 certain, if it was not 4 napster like sites, i would not know shit about
hardcore besidez the happy 2 b hardcore compalation's, but now thanx
2 that, i know a million more dj's and producers, that when i do c there
cd n the store i can buy it because i will know who it iz and what they
sound like!so what i'am trying 2 say, iz that it iz promotion! and promotion
helps, just look at how loud records and the wu-tang clan came up!
now what iz ****ed up, iz those pricks that go on there and download a whole album, yes that shit iz ****ed up!me persanally, i only download hard 2 find remixes, unreleased demo's, and shit i simply can not find!so what i'am
trying 2 say iz that it iz bad, but not that bad!

supposing you make a track and sell it on for money, then all of a sudden someone offers that same track for nothing over the internet, you'd be pretty annoyed wouldn't you?????
well the same applies here with all the artists, they're getting their tunes stolen off them

If you can't afford CD's then get a job or a higher paying job... that is no excuss... Can I go steal the petral (gas) in your car and say "some poeple can't afford petrel (gas) all the time you know"... you worked hard to earn the money to pay for the petral (gas) for your car right? Well so did the artist to create the track people don't pay for....

since people seem to wanna dig up old arguments and stuff i figure i'll do the same ...

how big does hhc have to get before we start getting cd singles? like many (most?) on this board, i don't own turntables. the record player on my stereo is busted, and even when it was working it wasn't all that great. while i *do* buy vinyl, i don't particularly like buying into what i consider is a dj's format when i don't dj. i also don't like having to go to other people's houses just to play my own music, which is why i encode everything while i'm there.

i don't particularly like buying cd mixes and compilations either - paying for 20-odd tracks when i only want one doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, especially when i'm only gonna get that track in a heavily modified form.

...

ok i think i'm done for now.

The problem of MP3s being downloaded isn't going to go away. There are some people who use them "legitimately" (ie they try before they buy) but theres so many who just download coz they "can't afford them".

The problem may not go away, but theres no point poodling over and making it easy for people to rip other artists off.

Anyway, whats the point in arguing? Its Silver's site...therefore what he says goes!!!! He's not gonna suddenly say "Oh, its ok for ya to post mp3s...especially mp3s of Masterwax tracks!!" is he now?

Amen, my Brother (waves arms in the air as a liturgical choir erupts into song) ... ok maybe a little carried away there. It's just that I said something similar in a previous thread.

I think that file-sharing (especially with mp3s) has come a long way since way-back-when, when you had to have a bit of specialised knowledge about formats and protocols to stand any chance, and you had to charm, bribe, or cheat your way to accessing the better stuff. Now with all the ready-to-go software available out there, an autistic donkey could probably manage with similar success.

AFAIC if you can't figure out how to get these files without resorting to begging on UBBs, then you don't deserve them. Hell, why stop there? You don't deserve your computer. It should be confiscated, and a tatoo stamped on your forehead saying, "Do not place within 1m of electrical appliances" ... and that's just for starters. I am all for cruel and unusual punishments when it comes to the heinous crime of computer illiteracy.

ps ... I'd like to point out that although I believe in a moral sense that "try-before-you-buy" is a legitimate use of the mp3 format, it's still in violation of copyright law to the best of my knowledge. Not really important, cuz it's not as if you're gonna get caught. Come to think of it, you really don't wanna know what I think the punishment should be for being stupid and/or unlucky enough to get caught for mp3 trafficking ...

pps ... I just realised how pointless this post has been thus far. F***it. My point is that it's easy enough to get mp3s, legal or not, without having to burden a quality discussion board with file-sharing traffic. Burdening quality discussion boards to a screeching halt is a task best left to dumb, unnecessarily long posts like this one.
