I just use standard plug ins (usually the ones that come with Logic). EQ out the upper and lower frequencies (same as a bandpass filter) to taste, and then either compress the hell out of it, or add a little "light" overdrive. Sometimes I EQ after as well. The EQ before is the key though, as it reduces the number of harmonics present in the output. Heavy (so it distorts) compression sounds good too - often better than overdrive IMO

Does reason have the plugins?

Virtual keyboard?
What on earth are you on about?
Reason has everything you need, if you know how to use it.

Unlike Fruityloops and Cubase, Reason doesn't have a virtual keyboard -sigh-. They really should have implemented one with the release of 3, but alas, they didn't. The only way to trigger synths/samplers via the keyboard in Reason is to download a virtual keyboard like Bomes Mouse Keyboard, then instal a Virtual Midi Driver (Midi OX I think it was called), and virtually connect the "Midi Out" in Bomes Mouse Keyboard to the "Midi In" in Reason.

Tuts for version 2 will be just fine.
Sure you wont understand the combinator for a while, but learning 2 is a very good idea.
