THE man accused of being the Phantom Knicker Nicker of the Scilly Isles will today face 11 of his alleged victims.
The women are being flown by helicopter from their island homes to identify their underwear and sex toys at his trial on the mainland.
They are all witnesses against builder Andrew Stephan, 41, who is charged with burglary and stealing a huge array of panties, G-strings and vibrators.
And yesterday a jury was told they had bravely come forward to give evidence despite "considerable embarrassment".
Prosecutor Iain Leadbetter said: "For many of these women it was extremely embarrassing to tell the police, 'Oh, by the way that's my vibrator'.
"You can imagine the embarrassment that they all felt the moment this can of worms opened."
He told the crown court at Truro, Cornwall, that the case had changed the lives of many people living on St Mary's - which shares two bobbies with the other islands.
He added: "As you can imagine it is a close-knit community. Until this happened people would leave their doors unlocked. That's the way it was - but that's not so with a few of them now."
Stephan is said to have kept a 15-year stockpile of stolen undies.
He allegedly hid them in the attic of the St Mary's B&B he once ran with his ex-wife Sonia and their two children.
Sonia's new partner James Vickers-Fletcher discovered the hoard when he was working on the hot water system.
Over time more stashes were uncovered around the house, including G-strings, personal photographs, vibrators and even a wedding video.
Mr Leadbetter said: "Stephan plainly has a rather weird fetish and a predilection for women's underwear."
The court heard that his ex-wife "felt physically sickened" by the discovery.
Stephan was arrested on January 22 and allegedly admitted to police he had a fetish for women's undies.
But he claimed he never broke into any homes and only ever stole knickers from washing lines. Stephan denies 16 counts of burglary, four of theft and one of witness intimidation.
The trial continues.
