With Windows, you have to format C: and re-install everything, once a year or two. In the end thats the easyest way, at least for me that is :)

You may want to upgrade from ME. Thats the worst OS Microsoft made IMO. Get Windows XP, since ive had it ive had no problems whatsoever.
Come on make the be-be-be-beat, come on make the be-beat drop!

Windows ME is the worst operating system Microsoft ever made! I would strongly advise using any other MS operating system.....or go the full wack and go for Linux.

it's a good idea to back up everything important from your hard drive onto CD and then format every once in a while, gets rod of all the crap that builds up from the net, tepm files etc.
as for OS's.... i'm on 2000 second edition and wont upgrade to XP, have heard too many bad stories bout it messing up

If you're going to stick with a MS operating system, I'd strongly advise 2000 server addition, as that is the most reliable of ALL the MS operating systems in my honest oppinion!

gonna point out that i wouldnt opt for the server version just go for professional. Server has server additions which youll never use. Professional is the standard version.
The only problem is that by the sounds of it you may have a computer thats a bit old and may have compatability issues. To be honest if its a newish pc id go for 2000 pro, if its old go for 98se
AND INSTALL THE SERVICE PACKS

I've just done a monster reformat of my piece of junk, which was a total nightmare as i dont have a cd burner.... so basically I lost everything inc drivers i've lost disks for and all my music etc etc.
My only advice would be either wait for the new windows, which is supposed to be 'safe' or go for linux. All other windows ops are buggy bugged out bollocks and let you down when you really can't be arsed with the hastle.
Its the t'internet that does the real damage to your system though....
Get a new apple G4 with os 10, I use em at work and they're the dogs, never goes wrong and flies like s**t of a teflon coated stick!

The thing with all MS OS's is that they crash a lot, and when it crashes you have to use the power switch. and the more you have to do that, the more corrupted/crappy files you get, witch makes it crash even more.
Also use the defragment tool, if possible once a week. My hard drive is broken from the end and from the beginning because i couldnt do that (didnt have the neccessery 15% free space).
I'm really building my hopes on the Linux revolution, and not only coz the Penguine looks cool :)

as quick as everyone is to slate windows. Could you run half the stuff you do on any other thing. the reasons windows has problems(besides being a piece of s***) is that there is a tendency to install as much shite as possible and it knackers it up. if anyone remembers how stable windows nt 4 was..
