People were laughing at Ruiz the first time around, mostly because they didn't know who he was or hadn't seen him fight. I said on twitter that Ruiz is no joke, and that he's a good fighter with amateur background. Body types don't win fights.
What can Joshua improve on from the first time around? Hold the centre of the ring and look to push Ruiz back behind the jab? and possibly break him down? I'm not sure he can do that. I've heard some people say that Joshua will adopt the same game plan as when he fought Joseph Parker, which was a good performance, but Ruiz can close distance and has very good positioning. Ruiz also has excellent combinations with short, sharp punches. I fancy Ruiz could stop him again, as Joshua will likely at some point get into an exchange, and this is where Ruiz does damage. In close quarters..
Joshua isn't fluid enough for me, quite stiff, almost Frank Bruno like. I'll be streaming the fight anyway.

Joshua coming in very light by his standards for this one. Has much more of a boxers physique than his usual body builder look. Not that physique matters much as we learned in the first fight. Reckon Joshua will try to outbox Ruiz like he did with Parker last year. But Ruiz is very dangerous and will have his own plans.
I like Joshua and if he gets his belts back it sets up some massive fights over the next year or so. However part of me wants him to lose just to get it right up Sky sports. Bastards are charging ?25 for this as they know it could be the last chance to milk the Joshua cash cow.
Tough one to call but im going Joshua by late stoppage.

Yeah. A loss for Sky and Eddie Hearn is always sweet.
As the big fights go, I doubt Hearn wants any part of Wilder. The Fury fight could happen, but he's got the rematch with Wilder in Feb first. I think Joshua loses to both Wilder & Fury. Wilder is the most dangerous guy in Boxing right now.

Yeah wilder has insane power. I watched highlights of his latest fight v Ortiz and he lost every round up until the devastating knock out, but that is what he is all about. Must be one of the most powerful punchers of all time which makes up for his lack of boxing ability. I dont see Joshua getting up like Fury did v wilder.
I think Joshua v fury would be the biggest fight in UK history if it happened over here. The build up would be brilliant. Fury wins all day long, he is the best in the division.

Ortiz was winning both fights for me until he got caught. Ortiz is an excellent boxer too.
Wilder is up there with the likes of Earnie Shavers, George Foreman, David Tua, Joe Mesi as one of the biggest one punch finishers in history.
My P4P all time biggest puncher is Julian Jackson. I've never seen one punch power like it.

I got Ruiz knocking Joshua out, when I look at the first fight, Joshua hit Ruiz with 2 good shots to floor him, and he got up and he hit him again with a massive right, which he walked through and then knocked down Joshua.
To me, his heart went, he quit, he gave it away because he saw this fat little tubber took his best, and tbh Ruiz wasn't knocked out he was knocked down and look as his face, more shock than loss of motor function. Joshua caught Ruiz with a belter but that time he walked through it and then the rest is history.
Joshua shaking his head at his corner, knowing he couldn't win, is a quitting action, that's a fighter who's hearts gone. I don't see this fight being any different. BUT, boxing is a funny sport, some fighters who seem to be down and out can find something inside themselves to come through it, Groves is a great example. Joshua I don't see it, he's not a great boxer imo, never was, and he's still green tbh.
We will see but I got Ruiz stopping him in the 7th.
On a side note, Ruiz up 9lbs Joshua down 10lbs , that could be the deciding factor. Looking forward to it, but if Joshua wins, it sets up the Wilder fight IF Wilder wins, but tbh I like Fury's chances.

Very disciplined performance from Joshua. Movement, feints, different looks, kept it long, clinched inside, avoided exchanges, worked the jab. Ruiz Jr just couldn't get set all night to be able to throw, he didn't cut the ring off or close distance behind the jab. Joshua was just a moving target all night.

Was a very impressive performance from Joshua. He obviously learned his lessons from the first fight and Ruiz just couldnt get near him all night. He had several opportunities to go for the knockout last night but he kept his discipline knowing that Ruiz had a good chin and wanted him to go toe to toe where he is the most dangerous. AJ weight coming into the fight was spot on for that style, danced about the ring with ease and didnt get tired at any point.
Ruiz on the other looked like he was just there for the payday. He had the opportunity of a lifetime and to me he just thought he could do exactly what he did the last time without any extra effort. Saw a rumour that he turned up a month late for camp and it showed. He was talking about a trilogy fight in his interview afterwards but I cant see it and hope it doesnt happen either. It would just be another repeat of last night imo and therefore the matchup has lost its intrigue.
Onwards and upwards for Joshua. Not sure who he will fight next but surely he needs to fight the winner of Wilder v Fury 2 in 2020. Have to say though, I would fear for him against Wilder and I think Fury would outbox him.

Was a good boxing kept the tubber at bay, and boxed him at range.
From a spectacle point of view, what a boring fight.
One thing I noticed how actually shite AJ is at actual boxing. He's a bit skilled at boxing, bit skilled at inside work, bit skilled at defensive work, but not an expert at any of it, proper jack of all trades and master of none. His footwork is awful at times , he gets caught totally flat footed and Ruiz had chances to take his head off. He's still an amateur in my book. Bellew said the same, he's learning on the job.
Fury would school him, really badly, and Wilder would punch his head in. Joshua is gonna have to go up 3 or 4 gears to face them. I think even Dillian Whyte would test him tbh.

Doesn't seem to flow naturally with Joshua. All a bit forced. Fury is technically very good.
Whyte looked terrible last night considering he said he's been in the gym since the Rivas win in July. He was blowing out of his arse against Wach, who had come to fight. I enjoyed the Povetkin-Hunter fight. Best fight of the night IMO.
That Diego Pacheco looks pretty good too. I shall be interested to follow his career at 168.

Yeah Dillian Whyte looked poor last night. Out of shape and his heart wasnt in it. If he was to rematch Joshua I think it would be a different fight to the one they had in 2015 but the outcome would be the same, although perhaps on points.

Apparently Joshua has to defend against Usyk by June as ordered by the WBO, which means Ruiz AJ 3 may not happen.
tbh He should do the 2nd rematch, cos Uysk will smash him.

There isn't going to be a 3rd fight between Joshua and Ruiz.
Usyk isn't smashing anyone at Heavyweight. He wasn't a concussive puncher at Cruiserweight, but he certainly has the skills and technical ability to mix it up in the division, however, he fought Chazz Witherspoon in his debut at Heavyweight and got marked up. Witherspoon is a bum and was coming off career inactivity. Let's wait and see what happens if the Chisora fight gets made, and then we'll know more.

Well Usyk is winning, he's not losing and the guy is nuts and a hell of a good boxer. And he's got a chin. So he's a handful for anyone.
