Event name: Utopia - Sydney
Starts: 2003/12/31
Country: Australia

The party of the year has finally arrived!
New Years Eve has to be without a doubt the most important party night in Sydney. It's the one night EVERYONE comes out to play, where we all let loose and welcome the New Year with a huge bang!

We understand how important it is to make sure this one night goes off without a hitch, and we are not prepared to let you down. This coming event will be an extra special New Year's celebration, a party that will absolutely blow your mind and have you screaming for more and we invite you to be part of the total experience.

Powerhouse Productions have been proud to consistently provide an outlet for the Sydney party scene to kick their legs in the air and party on down. Total commitment and dedication to all our parties is paramount and for this NYE we have created a party that has it all ? Sydney's premier party venue, unprecedented laser and lighting shows and kick arse DJs from Australia and around the world.

Come and party at Utopia NYE 2003-2004, The Year of the Monkey, and experience what a New Year's Eve party is meant to be!

The Sydney Superdome

The Sydney Superdome is by far the most superior venue that Sydney has to offer. You have experienced first hand what can be executed with the combination of this world class venue plus the knowledge of our team. Together, these two ingredients have time and time again given thousands of people a night to remember. If you were there at the extravaganza that was Utopia in April '03 or Godspeed July ‘03, you know exactly what a perfect night at the Sydney Superdome is like.

Powerhouse has yet to make use of this location for a New Years festivity. After receiving an abundance of email requests that we do so and with 89% of Powerhouse members voting Sydney Superdome as their favourite venue, we have decided it's time for this venue to be put to use on the biggest night of the year. After the sell out crowd in April and July, and the thousand or so people outside that missed out, it shows just exactly how popular this venue is.

Utilising one of the largest and most versatile entertainment complexes in the Southern Hemisphere has enabled us to integrate exciting and completely new production, visual and staging effects that are out of this world.

Are you part of the 10 000 strong crowd that partied in April? Are you part of the night that has been talked about ever since? Are you ready to be part of a party that will surpass all others?

Come and witness our New Year's Eve Sydney Superdome spectacular for yourself...it will be talked about in year's to come.

Production that has to be seen to be believed!

The behind the scenes buzz is massive for this event and our excitement is continually growing as we come closer to Utopia NYE where we can bring you the most impressive light, laser and visual show we have ever created.

For this special New Year's celebration we have hand picked the best technical experts nation wide including our renowned production gurus, BLM.

The experience, knowledge, time and energy that BLM invest into every show is truly unbelievable and the results speak for themselves. Each time striving to produce a show a cut above their last, this New Years Eve shall be a perfect example of how the team can provide a party with the ultimate sound and lighting display each and every time.

BLM designed and implemented the amazing production seen at the last April Utopia. The talented team transformed the score board in the middle of the Superdome into an amazing giant moving mirror pendant and if you were privileged enough to witness the 360 degree lighting display, then we are sure you were blown away. For this NYE party, we have created an even more spectacular staging structure, bigger than ever...

Designed to handle a big production show like UTOPIA, the Sydney Superdome is the perfect venue. All the facilities are in place and with such an infrastructure at their disposal, BLM can spend more time on perfecting their shows and putting time into design and programming, to get the maximum out of our state-of-the-art technology.

Powerhouse has always placed an emphasis on the visual aspect of the hard dance experience. Combining visual stimuli with your aural senses has always been the key to making your night at one of our parties even more memorable than the last. Massive 50 metre projection screens and abstract visuals will generate an energy and vibe that will completely engulf you and when combined with our special staging, lighting, sound and lasers effects, you will be partying hard all the way to 2004.

Not only the production has been given a boost, but the entire installation of stage props, backdrops and other assorted items will adorn the stage to coincide with our Tribal Fever theme. The main stage will begin as a blank canvas, and on the night it will be a jungle that includes long lost cities of Aztecs hidden amongst wildly growing trees and plants, fire dancers, witch doctors and voodoo chefs all dancing with the beat of their drum.

This NYE the Sydney Superdome shall be a place that you can let your jungle spirit run free, this night is our chance to transform the Sydney Superdome main into a jungle landscape. Immerse yourself within the voodoo spirit and make your night one of tribal chanting!

Carnival Rides, Stalls and Performers

This is the summer party season people! The warm summer nights provide us with the perfect environment to create for you an extra special carnival extravaganza! We have ensured your night will not only have the best DJ's, tunes, and venue, but also some of the wildest rides and attractions to be used at any of our events. And the best the thing is...they are free all night!

Wander through the numerous eclectic market stalls scattered through the Superdome maze and experience massages, temporary tattoos, jewellery, clothing and other unique and funky stalls.

As you know, Utopia is renowned for its eccentric and entertaining live performers. Stilt walkers, fire breathers, baton twirlers and other unique and talented artists will indeed keep the positive energy live throughout the night with their on stage antics and mind blowing shows.

15+ EVENT
Utopia NYE is strictly a 15+ event. ID will be required at the door on entry. Alcohol can be obtained with 18+ photo ID.

Interested in dressing up?
This year's dress up theme is - Tribal Fever!

An integral part to a great party is the whole aspect of dressing up, and getting right into the theme of the night.

We like to have the entire UTOPIA massive feel part of our nights theme, and this time round we want to get the entire party feeling part of the tribe. Get into the swing of things this New Years Eve and go all out with our dress up Tribal Fever theme. Go crazy, get wild and make sure you and all your friends participate in the years festivities!

Create yourself a costume, something that will return you to your tribal urges… that will bring out your jungle instincts.

The people who have the best costume creation that relates to our Tribal Fever theme will be chosen to win a selection of prizes which include tickets to future events, CD's and a chance to dance on the main stage with all the powerhouse performers, so make sure you do whatever it takes to put yourself in the running.

A large number of performers on the night have begun planning their own costumes, and the Powerhouse Team already know what they will wear. What will you become this NYE?

Main Acts

KAI TRACID
Tracid Traxxx

It was in the year 1997 that a young, up-and-coming producer in Frankfurt developed a new formula for successful dance productions: Acid as an underground element mixed with Trance as the popular element resulted in a new blend as the basis for successful future dance productions. Kai Tracid was born.

Come and witness the global guru of trance, Kai Tracid. Kai is now the world's most prolific trance music producer, the creator of trance classics 'Trance and Acid', 'Too Many Times' and 'Life Is Too Short', and the founder of his label Tracid Traxxx. Many believe Tracid Traxxx is, without having to exaggerate, one of the top vinyl labels in Germany with signed artists such as Hennes and Cold, A*S*Y*S* and Warmduscher.

He started in a small way with second-hand ‘home equipment' and had to fight hard to assert himself against the more complex technology of his ‘established rivals' in the industry. However in his studio he now has complex, state-of-the-art technology, alongside a few old analogue synthesisers. But what really counts, says Kai, is "a love of music, a feeling for new musical trends and, above all, remaining true to oneself."

Kai Tracid plays at the coolest clubs worldwide including Gatecrasher, Godskitchen and Europe's biggest dance event Love Parade. This New Years Eve, hearing the music will be like seeing the colours of trance and feel the power of acid, as Kai delivers a stellar performance at UTOPIA.

DYEWITNESS (The Future, Masterplan)
Exclusive DJ Set

Easily titled as one of the biggest rave acts to have ever graced our ears, the name Dyewitness is indeed legendary.

Since the album ‘Battle For Your Mind' was released in the mid 90's, Dyewitness has rocked hundreds of thousands of ravers all over the world. With tunes such as Masterplan, The Future, Observing the Earth, What Would You Like To Hear Again, Brainstorm, Only If I Had One More, and countless others being imprinted in our minds from years of partying, it is hard to find someone who hasn't danced to one of their popular tracks.

Working alongside MC Cyclone on a number of different projects, Dyewitness built a reputation for powerful performances and energetic anthems that are continually blasted on sounds systems today. Undeniably they are one of the most influential acts in the rave scenes early beginnings, with many producers drawing inspiration and ideas from their work.

This New Years Eve shall play host to the perfect party for Dyewitness to perform for the first time ever, a Dyewitness exclusive DJ set. This shall incorporate a combination of mixing it up on 3 decks while banging out riffs on his keyboards. If that isn't enough the new Dyewitness Dancers will be up on stage ripping it up as much as you are!

With Dyewitness in the main room, it is the perfect recipe for an energetic and unforgettable show, an amalgamation of raw power and rough beats, and the combination of memorable lyrics will surely stand the test of time. Make sure you check this one hour showcase, as nothing will compare with Dyewitness playing to the UTOPIA massive.

WARP BROTHERS
Groove Trax

The now legendary Warp Brothers were founded 3 years ago by the DJs Oliver Goedicke and Jurgen Dohr. Their first single Phatt Bass hit the German scene and made it to the top three in several dance charts, and since then their uplifting energetic style has swept over the world. Having travelled the US, Canada and Japan, they have played at awesome events such as Godskitchen, The Ministry of Sound World Tour as well as Two Tribes.

Comparisons to acts such as The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers run high, due to the creation of their individual unique sound. Requests for remix work has flooded the boys and now they have completed re workings of tunes by acts such as Black Spider, Norman Bass, Aquagen as well as the legendary Ultrasonic tune ‘Annihilating Rhythm'

Having very little time left to themselves due to the hectic production and DJ schedule, they have somehow found the time to start and run their own record label, called Groove Trax Records.

Since their first release, the quality tunes have kept coming including ‘Cokane' and more recently working alongside former Public Domain front man MC Mallorca Lee ‘Going Insane' was the end result. The main room at UTOPIA has never experienced a show as pumping as this one. Come and get warped!

STORM
Deconstructive Force Records

If there was one person that has shot up the ladder of hardcore supremacy over the past few years, it is definitely DJ STORM.

He has been creating a hell of a lot of noise for the past few years with his own blend of UK hardcore. Hard, uplifting… he takes influences from a number of styles and produces tunes that work well on the dance floor time and time again. He has received praise from his peers, as well as the artists he once looked up to for inspiration.

Storm once ran Raindance Records, which gave him the experience and understanding of the record business. 2003 saw him launch his very own label DECONSTRUCTIVE FORCE, which has now given him the outlet to release some of his awesome tunes.

His own works as well as awesome remixes of tracks such as N-Trance's classic ‘Set You Free' helped develop a reputation for quality production. Labels such as Hech-Tech, Blatant Beats, Silk Cuts and Essential Platinum have all snapped him up and has seen him working with artists such as Devastate and UFO

Raverbaby Records has recently seen the talent the man possesses, and his forthcoming release ‘Breathe' along with Euphony featuring Daniella is ready to set the scene on fire. You think that's enough? The inclusion of one of his creations has recently been signed to be included on the next Bonkers compilation, a feat that any aspiring hardcore producer would want to have next to their name.

We have given him the chance to rock the hardcore arena to its very foundations. Make sure you check this fresh new star of the hardcore world.

MISJAH
X-Trax

With early dreams of producing music, Misjah bought his first piece of musical equipment at 13 years of age. He did everything he could to further establish his dream, and then finally he was able to buy a sampler, a keyboard and a sequencer. With these tools he was ready to release his first record under the name "Dyewitness". After a few releases, Midtown asked Misjah to start his own label for them; X-Trax was born December 1994. He started producing tracks and due to the increasing success of X-Trax he was sought after by artists such as Josh Wink and Jam and Spoon. His release ‘Access' has become a huge anthem within the dance scene, and has been remixed and released a number of times over the years.

As a DJ he has his own minimal, hard, funky and pumping style. He uses his records as tools other than just simply playing them, in order to create a different sound which is why he always spins on 3 turntables. Misjah has played worldwide in countries including Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Scotland, the U.K. and the U.S.A. Misjah has also performed live at popular events such as Holland's biggest outdoor dance event Dance Valley.

Make sure you catch his dynamic performance as he is internationally renowned for his working of three turntables and his blend of techno.

SOUTHEND
The Winner Is...
Southend are one of the pioneers of the Australian dance music scene. Formed in 1991 when Stuart McCarthy & Steve Younan met Sameer Sen-Gupta (aka Pocket) cueing up for Depeche Mode Tickets. After playing a series of gigs in 1992 where vocalist Melinda Page joined the band, they were signed to seminal Sydney label Volition Records, home of Severed Heads, Boxcar and Itch-e & Scratch-e, where they had their first release with two tracks on the "High" compilation, Australia's first ever all-local dance compile.
In 1993, their debut ‘Fanatical' EP was released to glowing reviews and saw team up with DJ's Paul Holden, Abel & Nik Fish to do remixes. It was when working on a remix of crowd favourite "Take Me Up" with the latter, that the National ARIA Top 10 hit single "The Winner Is…" was born. Their follow up single "If You Believe" also cracked the national Top 50 singles chart and was signed internationally to Muzik Research.
Southend performed at Big Day Out 1993-1996 as well as just about every major dance event at the time including Happy Valley, Field Of Dreams, Prodigy, Tribal & Big Love (Brisbane). Recently featured on FBi's "Sydney Retropective", Southend have signed a new deal with Sydney label Yep! Records. Southend will perform production duties on upcoming releases from Alterboy, Nyalgodi-Scotty Martin, Old Man Time & The Keepers as well as a remix collaboration of Vagen's classic ‘Buggin' for Sydney based label Seascape Recordings. Stay tuned for new Southend material in 2004 as well as the re-release of the "Compilation" LP, first issued on Volition Records in 2000.

SPELLBOUND
2 hour Hardcore Set

DJ Spellbound was an instrumental part of the Australian hardcore scene for over a decade. To most, the name Spellbound and hardcore were one in the same. His energetic in-your-face style and dedication to always pushing cutting edge sounds gained him sets across the country. Spellbound1s production stints include working with artists such as DJ Slipmatt, MC Bee from The Ultimate Buzz and Lenny Dee. He was the man behind Cen-Cor, a subsidiary of Central Station Records, as well as running his own label Execution Records, on which he released the massive hardcore anthems ‘WannaFuk' and ‘Freak Freak'. Internationally, his travels have been wide and varied, having played at massive events in Holland, England, Canada, the U.S.A as well as New Zealand. His popularity as Australia's no.1 hardcore DJ grew through his release of the ‘Sex Drugs and Hardcore' mix-tapes during the 90's.

Don't miss this incredible return of Sydney's original hardcore master as he reunites the army of hardcore for this massive 2 hour set exclusive to Utopia NYE!
